It looked as though one or two of the sites wanted for me to download them onto my computer. I'm not crazy about downloading a lot of stuff onto my hard drive but if you guys say that it's standard proceedure than I'll just believe you.

thanx much

Could you be more specific?

I have "purchased free" books from Baen books. I sent them to my laptop and loaded them into Calibre I then connected my kindle to the computer via USB & dragged the book up to the device in the transre process Calibre will convert them into kindle format.
Remember you will have to save the books you purchase from any vendor outside amazon in case you get another device & want to load them there

There's no need to load books from Baen through Calibre. You can download them in Kindle format, and just drag and drop them into the "documents" folder.

Domestic Diva: yes, it is standard procedure. Books don't take up much room, especially compared to mp3s or videos.

Erin, if you email the books to your Kindle or use the new "Send to Kindle" add on for Windows Explorer Amazon will back up those books for you in the cloud.

I personally download the books to my computer and then use Calibre to edit the metadata. I also run a Calibre server and connect to that with my Kindle.
