Is there a way to use google play apps on my kindle fire?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 6, 2012 1:04:38 PM PST
It's launch day for google play, so we'll see. However, I doubt it. The Kindle Fire does not officially support one single droid app made by Google. I personally would love it, but I wouldn't hold my breath. The google droid apps use a google profile login which doesn't work on the kindle fire. You can certainly find plenty of evidence of people rooting their kindle fire's to get google apps running on it, but unless you're one of those people, I think you're out of luck. Like I said though, day 1 of google play isn't even over yet.

No one said you couldn't put android apps on the kindle. There's thousands of them.

Also the Nook app.

Also installed the Dolphin HD browser beta from that page. I much prefer it to the built-in web browser. I'm not sure whether it uses Amazon's cloud acceleration or not.

Google Play is just the new name for the Android market, renamed to indicate that you can buy books, movies, and music too (which you already could).

If you root your Fire you can install the Android Market / Google Play app. It does require rooting unfortunately.

There are sites that mirror most of the free apps from the Android market, so you can sideload them, and alternate app stores like getjar - you can sideload the app for that without rooting.

It is a lot easier to use the normal android market for your non-amazon apps, but not everyone is going to want to go through the trouble.

I know how to get some more apps on the Fire. First, go to the browser. then search frostwire on google search. click on the one that says there should be the frostwire logo with a droid. it should say there somewhere download for android or something like that. click on it. a download should auto start. wait. go to notifications click on the download complete one. then, install it. open it. in front of you there should be like a big picture that says 1mobile market. click on it. you're on your own now. your welcome

I am on day three of ownership and kind of overwhelmed with all the things the is amazing kindle fire hd 7".

Don't ask how I got there, but if you go to and download their software app. Once done, you can find TONS of free apps from 1mobilemarket, using their app. I was able to get Opera Mobile (which I think is the BEST browser), Firefox (also good), Google Chrome (good). As amazing as this tablet is, I don't care for the Silk Browser at all.

But must have changed a setting, because sometimes my downloads from download, but don't install.

I really like "SMART TASKBAR" which helps get around the cumbersome carasoul that drive me crazy. smart taskbar, gives the ability to navigate from screens with icons that look like the iPad and iPhone.

Starting to be very disappointed with my kindle fire. But it really is a get what you pay for kind of thing, I suppose right?...Cant make ultraviolet movies play or a media player work (netflix is all really, but the streaming selection is terrible) , can't use google play & get some of the apps I want. Seriously? If I wanted to just read books & play a couple simple games I would have bought one of the readers. Updates would be nice. Thanks for nothing Amazon.

@Elandra: You can return the Fire for a full refund within 30 days of purchase.

I have had several updates for the Fire HD since I received it. I can sideload apps from places like and I can load my own converted CDs and DVDs onto it. I can go to the websites that I want to. Works OK for me.

CBRetriever says: also has an app store that you can download, install and shop from on your Kindle Fire

most of the apps that Google Play offers are available on the two sites that John listed as well as other media players. People over on the Uk site have found ways (w/o rooting) to play UV movies and thee are other media player apps on the three sites as well
