My kindle fire has been shutting down all by itself for the past like two weeks. Even if it is almost fully charged. How can I fix this?

You got the union version that refuses to work. There's nothing you can do short of requesting a government appointed but union selected arbitrator.

Patrick, No twinkies for you.

Rogers, If you are talking the silk browser, you can try clearing cache, cookies, and history, but you might need to record your bookmarks and clear data on the browser settings.

DON'T PANIC, another company will probably buy out the rights, possibly Little Debbie, or Bimbo Bakeries who own Sara Lee.

Rogers - Have you tried a hard reboot?

With the Fire charged but unplugged from the charger, press and hold the power button for 30 full seconds. After the Fire cycles off completely, press the power button once to turn it back on.

Laura, Thanks for posting this advice; it has worked numerous times for me in the past regarding issues with my Kindle Fire (first generation)

I am just curious about something... why unplug from the charger first before holding the power button for 30 seconds? I "OOPSed" once and didn't unplug from the charger, but thankfully nothing bad happened and my problem (my Fire had "frozen") was fixed.

If the charger is still plugged in, the reboot may not work. It's just a precaution.

All right; thanks. Makes sense, really.
