Amazon won't ship paperwhite directly to Israel (why?), but does it work there at all, any limitations? Anybody has experience with paperwhite in Israel?

Daniel - Yes, they do ship them to Israel. You need to order from these international pages which are almost impossible for the normal customer to find.

will the kindle paperwhite 3G work in Israel for free or will I need a local provider?

debby - It looks like Israel has excellent coverage for the free 3G. You couldn't get coverage from a local provider if you wanted to. The SIM card isn't user accessible on the Paperwhite.

did you go ahead and buy this. and if so how do you use the 3g

Howard, the 3G is limited to purchasing and downloading books from Amazon and possibly Wikipedia look ups. As long as you are in an area that has 3G coverage, you can do the above. It is not enabled for browsing and emails, etc. To use the 3g, you click on a link to the Amazon store (ie book description, etc) and the device takes you there.

you might also do some research about - how to use the PW outside the USA.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201009920

- what you will be able to access in the Amazon Kindle bookstore
- how the account will be registered, email, address, country
- which Amazon website to use, the USA, or the IL website (if there is one)
