I am having the same problem with the same kindle model. Did you figure out what was wrong?

Any chance the two of you are bumping the power button while you're reading? They will go to sleep on their own after 10 minutes of inactivity, but shouldn't do it while you're actively reading.

No
I have an advertisement up and it says I should turn wireless on to download new special offers. However it is a frozen screen. Then the light goes off. I tried plugging in the charger again to see if I could get the menu and now it won't turn off.

I would like to remove the special offers as I feel that is using up the battery and they are of no interest to me.

Hold the power button for 30 seconds to reboot it.

Jean, the special offers take no battery life. You would still have sleep mode pictures when the device goes to sleep, and they don't use up the battery. You can buy out of the special offers...I believe it is $30 or $40 to do so.

Thank you so far that seemed to work.

Thanks Americus for the info. I may look further into removing the ads.

Thanks, I've been out of town this weekend but holding and rebooting the power button has fixed my problem.

Thank you Meya. I had no idea what to do to get my Kindle to stay on. The 30 second hold did the trick.

I have same problems. It seems it may have come with the most recent update. (Just in time for a holiday shopping replacement? Or am I too cynical?)

I have had the for about since before September, would this happen because I have dropped it quite a bit and now there is a crack in the corner of the screen, but I don't think this is just from the holidays, reply whenever!

I've got a Kindle Fire 7" that we bought back in 2011. I'm having problems with it even turning on. I've tried the hold the button down for 30 seconds and give it time before starting it back up but nothing happens. I know the battery is charged. If I do get the thing on, it stays on for a few minutes then shuts off. Also been having problems charging it.. have to have the charger in just right for it to show it's charging. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions or could it be that it's time to get a new Kindle?
