Just an FYI to those who love browsing the freebies, looks like effective March 1 Amazon is changing its affiliate rules for websites, blogs, etc. that heavily promote free e-books.

I can understand if Amazon needs to cut back on the free books, but I really hope the 'regular' sites a lot of us have come to depend on survive this...especially ereaderiq. I really rely on their discount info!

Amazon change:

"In addition, notwithstanding the advertising fee rates described on this page or anything to the contrary contained in this Operating Agreement, if we determine you are primarily promoting free Kindle eBooks (i.e., eBooks for which the customer purchase price is $0.00), YOU WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO EARN ANY ADVERTISING FEES DURING ANY MONTH IN WHICH YOU MEET THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
(a) 20,000 or more free Kindle eBooks are ordered and downloaded during Sessions attributed to your Special Links; and
(b) At least 80% of all Kindle eBooks ordered and downloaded during Sessions attributed to your Special Links are free Kindle eBooks."

Interesting thread in the Kindleboards Writers' Cafe discussing the impact on authors/affiliates:,143143.0.html

Wow, I hope ereader will be okay.

Possibly this means the ereader link should be posted when we find discounts there so they will get the credit.

That's a great idea to keep in mind - they do such a good job across the board with all the services they offer. And hopefully those 'extras' will help keep them afloat.

Was interesting to read the kindleboards info - I never knew the affiliates' cookies lasted for so long, so even if we download free books found directly on Amazon, it still gets 'debited'/counted against the affiliate site if we used it previously in the day.

That is downright silly.
I usually have Amazon and Ereader open on those days I am well enough to shop.

this is going to hurt a lot of blogs. i am so glad i 'stocked up' when i could. i know one blog is already telling people they have to pay to get the list of free books. i hope ereaderiq doesnt have to make drastic changes. i just discovered them about a month ago.

honestly, I can kind of see where Amazon is coming from - many of these blogs are making money off of amazon and if they are only promoting the free books (now sure how the affiliate fee works in this case), it doesn't seem right...I have a blog - I don't post the free kindle books, but if I review a book that has a kindle version, I link both it and the paperback on the review
