Does anyone know if the Kindle Paperwhite will be available in stores (Target, Staples, etc.) upon it's release next month?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 20, 2012 2:06:17 PM PDT
Well, it won't be at Target or Wal-mart.

Definitely not Target or Walmart. I just read that both retailers are going to stop selling Kindles.

Yes it will be. The question will be which model(s) they decide to sell and how many they will have for purchase and if you can get there before they sell out.

Stores had the Fire HD on the release day so no reason they would not have the paperwhite on the release day.

Those stores are only going to have a very limited supply, judging from past releases of kindles.

my understanding is that target and wal-mart made a deal with apple and part of that deal was that they would sell no Amazon products. I could be wrong, but the kindles have been pulled from both stores and this is what I was told.

Someone tweeted that they were told their BB would have them on October 8th. Another person replied and said they were told their local BB anticipated having them Oct 1 but didn't have tracking info for the store delivery.

Go camp out at your local BB! lol

None of the advertising inserts for Best Buy, Staples, etc. in today's Sunday newspaper showed Paperwhites for sale. Maybe next week...

I think the stores are getting them later. Staples website says they are available for pre-order at their in store kiosk, to be available NO SOONER than October 31st...so you can get it faster from Amazon than from them.
I tried Best Buy online (was going to do store pickup) and their website said 'only available in stores'. So I called my local store and they said you could only pre-order it online.... luckily Best Buy is very user-friendly, so the guy went online while I was on the phone to see that they had the pre-ordering shut down instead of thinking I was crazy. They seem to not be getting a lot of info to the stores. He said the best think was to call the store the day of release to see if they really got any (it's early morning now- so I'll be doing that later)

I just check my local Best Buy in the Boston area and their website says "coming soon", no other info available.

It should be the same price in stores if you can find them.

Our local Best Buy has them in stock also, according to their web site.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 9, 2012 9:26:09 AM PST
Our wal-mart doesn't sell Kindles- only Nooks.

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 9, 2012 9:27:34 AM PST
Radio Shack might have them in the store- they have the other Kindles. If not, they will order it for you and ship it to the store so you don't have to pay shipping.

I see this beef between Walmart, Target, and Amazon as a ridiculous catch 22. Retailers are cutting off there own noses. The Kindle Fire HD 7" was the highest selling portable e-pad/reader this last season according to a recent graph I saw. I have not been able to view or purchase a Kindle in Walmart or Target and any accessories are very limited. Sales clerks seem to have no idea why. In my experience, when a product is visible and available, it sells. Generally people don't like to order when they can have it now, unless they are getting better service by ordering. On the other hand, Amazon has built their self serving advertizing into the Kindle Fire which I don't appreciate either. I had to pay $15 extra to disable the advertizing and I had to order from Amazon to do so. I found what I wanted at Best Buy and would like to have purchased it then and there but they had no mechanism or authorization for disabling the ads.

In reply to an earlier post on Jan 11, 2013 8:06:58 AM PST
Once the device is registered, the ads would be disabled exactly the same way as you did it, including the $15 charge for the difference between the SO and non-SO price.

Some education is in order.

1. You don't pay $15 *extra* in order to delete the special offers. You get a $15 discount for buying the model that has special offers. In order to remove them, you have to give Amazon back their discount. Fair and reasonable.

2. No matter where you buy the device, you can refund Amazon the discount and remove the special offers simply by going into your Manage My Kindle page. Very simple process that can be done on a Fire purchased anywhere.
