Before I contact customer service, I want to know if anyone else has experinced my new problem.

In the last couple of days, the sound on my KFHD 7" has been hit or miss. For instance, while playing the same game of Yahtzee, the sound is working fine for some "rolls" of the dice, and then no sound at all. Same thing when playing music either from the Cloud or from the device.

I tried shutting KFHD off by holding power button for 30 seconds and then turning back on. No change.

Anybody else?

Erin Clouse says:
Yep. Same problem. Mine only happens when watching movies, though. There is no fix as far as i can tell other than re-winding the movie a bit and hoping the sound comes back.

Same issue too. With watching video or playing a game. Sometimes the sound goes silent or video/game loads with no sound (though not on mute). Adjusting volume by side buttons or interface slider doesn't help. Is it a hardware problem? :(

I had to click pause then play or reload game app to get sound back.

Did you notice when the last time was that your KFHD updated? If the sound problems started hapenning at the same time, it was most likely the update.

Amazon has been working on making a fix for the "popping" noises some people are having problems with, so it's possible this is a side effect. Amazon has said that there will be an effective patch coming for speaker problems very soon, with the next update, so just keep an eye on when that's available.

Agreed. My sound has become intermittent. Imagine how fun that is when is tried to show it off to my sister tonight. Lame. My screen randomly blanks out and there are two light leaks. BestBuy here I come for a replacement!

I'm having the same issue. It cuts out on Netflix if I pause what I'm watching and come back, and every time it changes songs on Pandora. The sound does come back if I pause and press play again, but it's becoming an inconvenience as the frequency increases. Just chatted with customer service and they're sending a replacement.

Ugh. Mine too. I thought maybe I was being punished because I had decided to return it just prior to the first occurence. :) Now I am definitely getting a Nexus instead. Ironically, the excellent sound quality of the Fire was on the initial Pros list. Bummer.

There is another thread for this and some are saying its after the usage of ear phones. How strange! And truly I remembered as well that I was not experiencing this prior to using ear phones. One explains its due to a spring or contact of some sort in the jack not returning to its original position after the ear phones plug is ejected but I wouldn't fiddle with the jack. Most think a future software update will resolve it.

Did those of you who got a new replacement experience this sound issue again?

I've never used headphones on my Kindle and I've not even had it 10 days when this happened. I contacted Amazon through e-mail and this is the response I received:

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear about the problem with the sound on your Kindle.

In this case, I request you to restart the device by holding the power button for 15 seconds and release it. Press the power button again when device turns off. Try playing any video to check the sound.

If still the problem persists, I request you to contact us over the phone or via chat for the further troubleshooting steps. You can reach us directly and toll free from many countries. Learn how on our Kindle Support website at:

http://www.amazon.com/contactkindlesupport

I realize that at this point of time asking you to contact us again would be disappointing, however, we would really like to assist you better. I appreciate your patience and cooperation in this matter.

Thanks for using Kindle.

It actually seems to be working fine after restarting it in the fashion described above. We'll have to wait and see if the problem returns.

Seems like it worked for me too! Another user (A.Dightam) comments that switching KFHD off during the night and turning it back on for the day's use will deter this sound issue occurrence.

Happy this can be resolved by just conserving energy! :)

yes except for those of us who use a sleep-inducing white noise generator and wake-up app. if that is the solution then this device is worse than i thought...

That sounds more like an office visit, a co-pay, and a consultation, as opposed to which electronic device. IJS.

I tried the restart (1 time) advised to M. Rose James and been using the KFHD for 2 days with no re-occurrence. That should work for most of us, I hope. :D I didn't remember to switch it off at night. :p

The sound to my KFHD went out after watching a few movies the other night connected to my TV via the Micro HDMI port. Noticed the sound was gone after unplugging the cord. Turned the KFHD off; and then on. Sound is back!!!

PJ says:
my problem is definitely related to headphone use. trying to adjust the jack through the leather case seems to have caused the speakers to cut out. I held the power button and shut down, then restarted and the audio is restored. the opening in the leather case needs to be revisited, its a poor execution.

For those who have problems with the sound turned off, in setting the tone with Dolby sound and it should run fine until amazon has a solution.

My kindle fire hd has suddenly stopped making a sound to inform me when an email arrives. I've tried switching off and on again and checked the settings, but it didn't revolve the problem. Anyone else had this happen and any ideas? I have sent an email to customer services.

Well I experienced complete sound loss when I unplugged my earphones. I turned off my Kindle and turned it back on and the sound is back now.
