can this be used like a word processor and could a student take notes on it?

Yes, but it's not as full-featured as a computer, and you would probably want a bluetooth keyboard.

Um... kind of.

These aren't tablet PCs, they are entertainment devices and more specifically, they are entertainment devices that also give you the opportunity to spend more money at Amazon.

Visa, yes. I use a Bluetooth keyboard, and actually like it better than the keyboard on my desktop.

If the student already has a laptop, you really don't need the kindle fire if you just want it to take notes on.

Visa, you would have to purchase (or get a scaled-down free version) a word-processing app in order to create documents/take notes on the Kindle Fire.

MA - that post was from 2012! You can search in the Amazon website for suitable keyboards for your model of Kindle.

I want to print a Word document I created on my Kindle Fire. How can I do this? There is no print option in the menu.

You have to have a wireless printer that also offers a Fire-compatible app.

Linda, you need a wireless printer along with a printing app. Do you have those two things?

I "purchased" documents to go (pro version) as the free app of the day awhile back. It has really come in handy the past couple weeks - I have been training someone as my backup at work, and another for a night shift position... typing up notes/forms in excel and transferring by usb to my HDX, then while the "trainee" is at the desk I am polishing up my notes and transferring the corrected copy back to my pc when I have time :) Working out great, since I can tweak the notes a little while the other person is following my printed copy..

Yes. My wireless printer works fine to print from my Kindle but I cannot print a document that I create on my Kindle Fire HD in Word because that option does not appear in the app. What choice do I have in this situation or do I have a ny option?
