My Kindle Fire has always been okay, but today I turned off the screen like usual. Then a little later, I tried to turn the screen back on, but it wouldn't work. I waited a bit. It turned on the next time I tried, but nothing happened when I touched it. I couldn't slide the thing on the lock screen. I thought I should try shutting it down. When it asked me if I wanted to shut down, I tried to click shut down, but it didn't work. The clock still works on the lock screen. It's pretty much like it just won't work when I touch it. What should I do?

@colt: Try performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire. Unplug the Fire from all power sources and then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

I let mine sit all night unplugged. Wore the battery down. Plugged it in in the morning and it worked.

No. Thank YOU for looking for an answer to a question that has been asked hundreds of times rather than simply posting the same question again! :)

The hard reset won't work on mine. Any other suggestions? It will turn on and show the Kindle Fire Name in the middle of the screen. That is ALL that it will do!

Try the same procedure (as silly as that sounds) several times if you haven't already done so. The bootloader sometimes hangs until it can clear system memory. Trying the same process several times in a row can sometimes result in a successful boot. If that doesn't work, contact Kindle CS.

Both my mother and adult special ed daughter have had an issue with their screen freezing (mother) or going black during use and not coming back on (daughter). (On the other hand, I've had mine since the 1st day the Fire came out and never had it happen.) Tried this hard reset on each of them and, voilà, both were back in business.
Thank you for posting this!

Wow. I love the internet sometimes. THANK YOU SO MUCH for the solution to this issue. The "Hard Reset" worked. Saved me from having to contact Amazon or the IT guy to help me with this issue.
