How to access Cloud Drive from the Kindle Fire?

I might be going crazy trying to get this to work but maybe others are having the same issue...

There's a few work PDFs I am trying to view on my Fire, and I know for a fact they are uploaded in my Cloud Drive... do I access my Cloud Drive from my Kindle Fire? I thought this would be like, on the home screen, seeing as how cloud storage is going to be used A LOT on a device with only 8GB of device storage..

Same problem... I thought the cloud was the whole point!

It's not possible. See my thread below somewhere. Amazon really screwed up on this one. The manual and online support all say that the only way to get personal document to the Kindle is to email them to your Kindle address or use USB and load them from your computer. One poster in my thread said that he can get to the Cloud Drive via the Silk browser but you can't download the documents to your device once you're there. Only view them... Grrr.. hopefully Amazon has a fix soon on this. Very dumb.. very dumb move indeed. Advertise cloud services and get people to purchase more space for their personal documents only to have it not be accessable from the new Kindle Fire.

I have just beat this from every direction but it appears the only way to get to the pdf's is to download them onto a PC and then transfer via wire. After that, and with the Adobe android reader app (free) - I get a nice looking pdf.

My main reason for getting the K-Fire was to solve my pdf issue. The converted docs on the Kindle - not really making it. When I saw that I could load pdfs to the cloud - I was hoping, as you all have done the same - that I would get pdf's treated the same as other content.

I guess if I am without a computer, then the cloud storage makes sense. But if I can't access the goods... what's the point?

I tried using the browser and it is definitely 'broken' - no error message but it opens another tab... which remains blank.

All I want for Christmas is... a Kindle Reader app that handles pdf's the same as the other content. Sure - I didn't buy them from Amazon - but this is how I get my periodicals and all my product documentation.

Email the document to your Kindle without anything in the subject line of the email and it should just send the PDF untouched. If you add CONVERT into the subject line it's supposed to convert the PDF into a searchable Kindle like document. Sideloading (via USB and computer) also will not convert the PDF and will leave it as a PDF file.

Wow...this may well be a dealbreaker for me if they don't have a fix in place

OK - maybe I'm not understanding what people are trying to do. Here is what I did:

I have docs uploaded to my cloud drive. They are stored in the Documents folder. I used the browser to log into my cloud drive (from the Fire.) I went to the Documents folder. The documents I've uploaded are there. I can check off one at a time, or all of them. As soon as at least one of them has a check mark next to it, the Download button is available. I click the Download button. It begins downloading the documents I've checked off to my Fire. Those documents (once downloading was complete) show up under my Docs tab on the Fire.

I love the way my PDFs look on the Fire!

Hmmm this might be my issue, I have just been uploading them to a different folder on the "root" of my cloud drive, called Work Stuff. I will experiment with your suggestion later, thank you!

I hope it works for you. I'm super pleased with the way PDFs work. I could read them on the regular Kindles, but as you know, they don't convert well. They look great in the Fire and you can pinch to zoom and everything.

Bought a book but cant access it! not auto download to my. Kindle once I.downloaded. all my old.books are there but not my new book. Hate power button on bottom. Keep hitting it while I hold the kindle on my stomach while laying down. Hard to use keyboard like iphone text. Lmao. Keep hitting. With thumb instead of space bar. Sorry about that!

When you buy a book, Amazon generally asks where you want it downloaded. If you chose your Fire, it should be there. You may need to click sync. (Tap at the top from the home page, you should see WiFi, Sync, etc.)

Well, I could see a few more points, to be strict. So I moved my folders under the 'Documents' and I also copied one pdf to the 'Documents' folder, separate from my folders 'Docs' and 'Periodicals' - just in case I picked an invalid name. I then selected the single doc (checkbox) and hit the download button... and "No Joy" (after 45 minutes). No clue if a download is in progress or failed.

I would expect to see a toggle for "Cloud" and "Device", in the Docs tab - like I do for Books, Music and Apps - that would make sense and that leaves me confused as to why the Docs are different. For sure, it works as expected on the PC. I cannot accomplish for the K-Fire, what "Just Me" recounts.

I also noticed that you can check multiple docs.. but you get an error stating only one can be downloaded at a time. I also notice that the browser, when on the cloud drive, does not react well when you change from portrait to landscape - can't scroll anymore...

Okay no such luck with moving my .pdf files to the documents folder. I try to click download but it just sits there ...any ideas?

I think this discussion has re-ignited my desire for a fire. All I wanted to use it for (other than books) was for pdf (without having to email to myself - if sideloading is available then awesome) and maybe some movies.
Getting excited again. All the reviews I googled had depressed me and nearly convinced me that fire was useless for what I wanted....

Use Dropbox to transfer? Rather than a wired connection?

Using dropbox might work but that kinda defeats the purpose of Amazons cloud drive ...

I would think they will release an app for the cloud drive. Their Amazon MP3 is close but u cant access the non music files. What i do right now with my android evo is upload to google docs and use their docs app via my phone. But u are correct defeats the purpose amazons cloud.

Add me to the list of people who did not understand the whole cloud drive / fire integration. Hopefully someone from amazon reads this stuff and decides to make the product better. Each of the cloud drive folders should automatically sync and be available from the kindle fire. This should include the photo's section of the cloud drive. Additionally fix the gallery application so it does not automatically resize images loaded onto the kindle.

I cant access any if my docs or video. Wouldent you think they would have a app for that. I can only access my music. Hope to see a fix soon as I purchased 20 Gb of data before this kindle showed up just to get ready with all my data. Love this device but I need to? Turn off the payment option as I already paid for a app that I wouldent take for free it don ask are you sure. It takes on click for them to take your money.

I am also having tons of problems trying to retrieve my documents that I uploaded to the clouddrive. Doesn't make sense at all. Finally gave up and ordered the USB cable for $3 shipped. Why couldn't amazon just include that cheap cable?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 16, 2011 8:19:23 PM PST
I tried this and it did not work.

Has anyone figured out a way to access your photos uploaded to cloud on the Fire?

I don't think you can - I'm really hoping that they bring and update that lets you, seems like such an obvious (and great) feature which would *only* make Cloud Drive and the Fire more compelling. Really odd it's not possible so far - maybe to encourage you to only use Amazon content rather than uploading your own videos and docs to the Cloud Drive, but you can already email docs to yourself....
