Sure. I'm going to go to "Wayne's" web site and download a file.

Not.

I'll ONLY download a file from a strange site if I'm allowed to enter my credit card information somewhere.

Also my home address, date of birth, mother's maiden name, and a complete list of passwords and bank accounts.

It's the only way to be sure.

I've taken pictures with my KFHD (Kindle Fire HD) with this free app from the Amazon Appstore:

PicShop Lite

I am not associated with that app except as a user. It's pretty simple...

If you have ES File Explorer, tap apps at the top and select system apps. You can then use the built in camera. It has picture, panorama, and what I think is video as the mode choices.

Wow!

That was an excellent suggestion, M. Miller!

I use ES File Explorer a lot, and had never realized that app thing was there. :)

I just tested it with both a still and video...worked fine.

You're right! The other thing is a panorama...that's also cool!

Thanks!

I don't understand the directions...where do you "tap apps?"

The Engineer says:
Yeah, I noticed that app, when installing Smart App Protector. Too bad there's no way to create a shortcut or add it to Favorites.

The Engineer says:
1. Install ES File Explorer.
2. Start ES File Explorer.
3. Tap "AppMgr" at top of screen.
4. Tap "Camera" app.

Frustrating that in all the official info describing features of the Kindle Fire HD there is no mention of how to take a picture. Can't they just say that by downloading an App like Picshoplite it's easy?? We just bought the HD & really like it- but had to go to discussion pages to find out basic information. Thanks to commenters here for the answer.. Just downloaded the App & took a photo!

Thomas, the camera is designed to work with Skype. The fact that it is only front facing is proof of that. Amazon didn't include directions on using it to take pictures because that is outside of its design.

Expecting such directions is like expecting a wrench to have instructions on how to use it to set a nail. Sure you can use it for that purpose, but that isn't what it is designed to do.

I am trying to get my Kindle Fire HD to take pictures. I downloaded ES File Explorer and tapped AppMgr, but there is no "Camera" app. I also downloaded Skype. but don't see how to proceed from there to use it as a camera.
