Mandy - You need to reboot it.

TO REBOOT YOUR KINDLE FIRE:
Make sure it's fully charged. Unplug the Fire.
Hold the power button in for 30 seconds (count them).
It should then reboot. The "kindle fire" screen will
appear for a couple of minutes while it's coming back on.

ETA - Mandy, ignore Fud53. He's a troll.

The thirty second power button press will reboot almost every model of kindle ever made. (Not the original) Fud53 recommended a correct procedure

Fud,

The kindle fire's manual is a document on the fire.

APC,

You may have one or both of the following problems. You may have one or more applications that suffer from "memory leaks." If this is the case what happens is that the available memory (not storage, but the actual RAM) for your KF shrinks as apps do not close properly. This is not unusual in Android devices and a good way to avoid it (if you cannot identify the offending application(s)) is to reboot your device regularly. I do so once or twice a week.

Another source of the problem is the battery monitoring software and the the true battery charge getting "out of sync." This can cause the KF to believe it has no charge available when it does or vice versa. Either condition can lead to unpredictable and unfortunate results. To remedy this problem follow the procedure described in the post below.

My kindle just froze up too. I held down the power button and counted for 30 seconds and it rebooted. This is the second kindle fire I've had. The first on I had for less than 3 months and had to take it back and the store replaced it.

My kindle fire just froze up. I held down the power button for 30 seconds (yes I counted) and it rebooted. I was a little leary since this is the second kindle fire I've had. The first one just died. Screen went blank. Thank God I had my receipt and they replaced it since I had only had it for less than 2 months.

I did the "30 second power push button" thing several times, and no luck...it's still frozen at 6:14AM...I unplugged the battery charger, hoping that it will run out of juice and close down itself. Will not know until I return home this evening
