If the kindle fire doesn't have a camera then what is the camera-like thing in the top left corner??

J. Donahue says:
It's an inoperative light sensor.

As was stated on the thousands of other threads on this forum.

It's a light sensor. It detects the ambient light, and adjusts the screen brightness. That is, it DID do those things. It was disabled with the first software update. Best guess is it was done because it used too much battery power.

Are you sure? That little lens in the top left corner?
It looks like a camera.

It's a light sensor. When first shipped you could have the Fire auto-set the screen brightness based on the ambient light. The first software patch removed that entirely.

It is not a camera of any sort.

It's a gateway to the Twilight Zone...

Take a picture with it then. Find the section in the manual that says how to use your "camera"

"It looks like a camera." No, it looks like a LENS - a little plastic lens over a light sensor. By your definition any round piece of transparent material must be a camera. NOT

So if it's not a camera, how do I clean the screen?

PS56k says:
Yes it is a camera - but only for Amazon CS usage -
When you have a problem, and contact Amazon CS, they will enable the camera to see who is really having the problem and most importantly - what you are wearing.... if anything.

Personally, I would take a band-aid and cover it up to protect your privacy.
