A.M. Alas says:
Upon unboxing my Fire I decided to charge it since I didn't have time to play around with it.

Everything feels solid from a build perspective except the usb charge port. The plug is incredibly loose and cheap feeling tbh.

It charges and still works but my main concern is that it will eventually be too loose and stop charging or holding the plug in at all.

Is this normal for other Fire owners?

no, mine is a very tight, snug fit... suggest returning for a different "fire" device. yours doesn't sound right!

Thanks Shannon!

I contacted Amazon CS about this and was taken care of quickly.

Great customer service as always. Other companies could learn a lot from Amazon. Much appreciated.

S. Sigourney says:
Yes I just recieved mine after work tonight and I noticed the charging cable in the micro USB port is indeed really loose. I attached the Fire to my PC with a USB to micro USB cable and this fit much snugger but the charging one feels like it is going to fall out. Hate to send it back for this when everything else is working so well...maybe I will use it for a few days and see if it gets worse.

Nobody says:
I noticed the same thing. I could wiggle it when it was charging. I was wondering if I could use my phone charger instead. It locks in place.

Mine was also very loose. Seems that may be an issue.

A. says:
Your phone charger can be used, if it's micro-USB, but it may charge the Fire slower.

P. Burks says:
Mine is loose as well but still charges OK. I was called by Customer Service about another issue I posted on the board and asked her about the loose connection. She said that she had a Fire plugged in with her and it appeared to be loose also. She also said that if it appears to not be charging to let them know. Really don't want to return the Fire because of the charging adapter but will see what happens. Perhaps they would offer to just replace the adapter.

LMP Jr says:
Yes, I too am concerned about the USB port. Mine is loose and doesn't seem to be charging my device right now. I'm not getting the red chargling light and my battery charge indicator on the display is not moving. I really do like everything about the device (look, feel, readability, etc). When I was considering an e-reader tablet I did notice a number of complaints regarding the charger for the Nook Color. Bottom line, I'm not looking forward to having to ship this thing back when the current charge fails!

To all: the warranty is 12 months and amazon's customer service is outstanding.

I didn't mention that in my last post but if this causes an issue then they'll take care of it.

Nina says:
Mine fits snugly. If I move the cord a bit, the Fire stays attached.

My USB port isn't loose, but the headphone port is.

Fuzzy says:
The charging cable that came with my Fire is also a bit loose. I used the cable that I normaly use for several other devices and it fits much better.

OP: Just curious, What did CS tell you when you contacted them?

Just gave my wife her Fire for Christmas and my USB charging cord seems loose in the socket as well. Does anyone think it's worth returning/exchanging and requesting a new one?

Sam I Am says:
My usb port is so loose the charger will not engage the Kindle Fire for recharging. I am sending mine back for a replacement. I do think it is worth exchanging. The problem is likely to get worse over time.

My husband gave me my Kindle yesterday as a gift. My usb port seemed loose yesterday but charged ok. Today when the usb is plugged in I have a red charge light but the indicator on the battery goes in and out as if there is a short. It seems to be taking forever to charge this way.

I just got the kindle fire as a gift this year and I did notice the Usb is loose inside the unit not the plug. The plug fits snug but can be wiggled back and forth by moving the cable. I hate the fact that it is already becoming delicate. I had a similar problem with an expensive postal scale and I now have use it on batteries because unit will not power up because USb connection loose. What is going to happen in six months if we have ship back for repairs? Are we going to lose all our apps and stuff stored on it like you do when you ship a computer in for REPAIR?

My wife owns the Nook Color and she's had problems with the charger being loose and eventually failing to charge. She now has the KindleFire and it seems to have a similar charging port and wire, therefore I am concerned about well the Fire's charger will work.
Having gone into a few department stores we noticed that the charging adapter on the display model was somewhat different to what we received with out Fire. Those in the store had a much more sturdy adapter that we'd love to purchase if its available somewhere.

Anyone else noticed this different adapter, and are they available for purchase?

Gavin Ralbag says:
Mine was loose, and now is so loose it doesn't charge after 5 days of using it. I don't have a computer to myself so I spend a lot of time watching movies on it while it's plugged in I know the solder points are loose and broken, I'm sending it back I'm just wondering if I should replace it with another or just get something else all together and buy a regular kindle for my books.

How did Amazon take care of it? Did you send the whole unit back to be repaired, or did you exchange it for another unit?

I just bought the Kindle Fire and set up all my email, Pandora, books, etc.....I love it however the usb connector inside the unit is loose. When i plug into it, the cord moves around. Is the best way to fix this to exchange the unit? I bought it at Best Buy. Also, if i do exchange it, will the replacement unit be able to Sync everything over including the 1 month free Prime trial?

P. Tuel says:
I bought the Fire in November and noticed the USB connection to be loose as well. The cord where it connects wiggles as if loose and my phone charger only works at times on the Fire. However, I tried to move the connecting port on the Kindle with a pointed object and it is solid. I think it's the cord.

I got a kindle fire for Christmas from my husband, and I've been notice that the plug where the charger goes is rather loose. I've had issues in the past where thing that had a loose plug like that eventually stopped getting charged altogether. I'm concerned that this may happen with my kindle, wondering if I should call CS about it.
