Does anyone know a way to block the download of dictionaries to a Kindle account?

Posted on Nov 1, 2012 6:32:20 AM PDT
Not really. Is there a problem with the downloads? They don't take up any space on the device itself...

CBRetriever says:
delete them, then delete them again and again

I just think of them as being like those hundreds of font files that clutter up my PC

Used my older Kindle keyboard with a Spanish/English dictionary while reading, how is it possible with the Kindle Fire HD? Same library but where do I
change to a different dictionary with the Fire?

A reader who hates dictionaries.... An interesting phenomenon.

CBRetriever says:
you can't

however, if you're reading a book and press for the definition, there's an option to get the definition in another language (this is not a translation function)

I tested it with 12 fairly easy spanish words, it answered correctly 4 times and nothing the rest. What a disappointment!

OtinoKyad says:
The problem is that they all appear at once. There was recently (09/18/2013) another batch of both User's Guides and dictionaries -- ten altogether -- downloaded at once. They now overwhelm my first page of library items -- two-thirds of the 15 rows are items I will never use. In practical terms, this means that every time I want to get to something else, I have to click farther down the list, and more importantly because of the super-slow refresh on the Library page, I have to wait after doing anything (including the ten deletes) to get to anything else.

I get it as a business model, but I suspect the majority of people who actively use the Library management page would at least like to have a way to delete multiple items in one step.

Just Peachy says:
If you quit deleting them they will drop down in your list of items and won't be overwhelming the first page. That only happens if you delete them.
