My dad was telling me they had a polaroid ereader advertised -cheap. I told him not a chance, but I was curious. What would you do with that? I assume there's not a kindle plug in for it so what would you even be able to read, maybe the free text files of the classics and that's it?

From the little I've read on the subject, its a rebranding from an ereader company that is popular is SE Asia. I don't know anything about what book formats are usable on the device.

Does it have a camera? :)

From a simple google search I found that it does Epubs, has an LCD screen, and like Rocker said, it is a rebranding.

You would think...but no.

I have one - bought it yesterday.

For the $40 its great. reads epub/txt/pdf files - also plays mp3 and it plays high quality XviD/DivX files - has 2GB of space, has a microSD card reader that you can put up to 32GB into.

Also, another odd thing, it takes 4x AA batteries. I bought high capacity NiCD and it hasn't left the "full" setting since I've been using it all day.

Yes, its cheaply made and limited in capability but for $40 it was worth it.

So is there any way to put Kindle books on it? Can you covert the files to a different format? I have several children's books that are in color that are pretty unappealing on my black and white Kindle Touch. Was thinking of getting this for my kids but not any use to me if I can't use the books I have.

I went ahead and bought one at Big Lots for $39. I have 30 days to return it, so if it doesn't work out I will take it back. What I REALLY wanted from Big Lots was the Polaroid 7" Android tablet they advertised for $89.99!! Every store I called was either sold out or never got them in!

I be curious what your battery cost is going to be after a year of use. I wouldn't buy any device that took 4 AA batteries.

Stacey says:
You can buy a set of 4 rechargeable AA batteries for about $10. The chargers are only $10-20 depending on how fast you want to be able to charge them. With 3 kids in my house we have more than recouped the cost of the rechargeables we've purchased.

On the box it says you can download free books from KOBO. Don't know anything about that except for seeing the name on generic covers that say they will fit a Kindle, Nook, or Kobo ereader.

There is a thread on this tablet on the tablet forum. A lot a people like it despite lack of support. It is an active thread that has been going on awhile. The Polaroid uses the Amazon app store. Here is the link http://www.amazon.com/forum/tablet/ref=cm_cd_tfp_ef_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8

Yes. Because clearly Kindle is the best. Where have you been?
Actually - I think you will see a preference here because this is an *Amazon Kindle* forum. So naturally the majority here like/love/prefer kindle. You will also see people that use Ipad or other tablets with the Kindle app.

Random, Kindle forums are for Kindle questions. If you start asking about other readers, or bashing the Kindle devices, you can cause quite the uproar. It all depends upon how you approach it.

Not really. That being said my kindles are awesome, and other inferior e-readers are not.

Well, the Kindle forum is a self selecting group. Most people here have Kindles and enjoy them. I did not see any bashing of other e-readers even in the post that you replied to. They just did not seem interested in a tablet that they could not install a Kindle app on. Not a big suprise on a Kindle forum. :-)

@random This is the Kindle forum. If you follow the link I posted it will take you to the Amazon tablet forum--where the Polaroid tablet is being praised not bashed. If you want information on the Polaroid tablet from those who have purchased it and loved it, then visit the tablet forum.

Maybe I am the one being over sensitive here but are you just trying to pick a fight? First you accuse forum contributors of bashing other e-readers then you make a random bash against Canada. Why?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 7, 2012 1:04:28 PM PDT
meadow, you seem to be missing the point. why BASH at all?

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 7, 2012 1:04:43 PM PDT
lol silly canuck, it was an example,. seems like you are being overly sensitive.
