I have the same issue

Try turning it up IN the app, and not only on the Fire control itself.

C. Scilley says:
Did you try turning it completely off, by holding down the power button and touching shut off, and then turning it back on again?

Same problem. Super annoyed

Whatever you're trying to listen too likely has a volume control separate from the volume for the device. Make sure that is turned up as well.

My kindle says the sound is off, when the sound is on, how do you fix this??

Posted on Jan 16, 2012 4:20:54 PM PST
No sound. Volume turned all the way up in the Fire AND in the app (e.g., youtube). Sites without independent volume controls (bandcamp) also have no sound. No sound has ever come out of the speakers. (It has some, right? They look like speakers.)

If headphones work and the speakers don't, you may have a defective unit. In that case I would contact Kindle customer support for a replacement.

I really hope amazon addresses this. I cant hear notifications or any keyboard clicks. The volume Icon at the top says there is no sound but there is! And when ever I try to turn up the notification volume from the sound menu it just goes back to zero. Come on someone out there has to know how to fix this. I had it for two months and its super annoying =..[

Try resetting the Kindle to factory default settings. I had this happen to me and that fixed the issue.

Are using earphones? If not, plug in earphones and see if the sound works---some times the earphone jack gets stuck so it thinks it has earphones plugged in when it does not.

My KF's volume is way to low to be useable for music and movies, I have done all the on device turn up's I can, I bought volume+ app. witch helped some, maybe a one 3ed increase in volume but still to low for music & movies. I bought a powered Altic Lansing im227 with hopes that a powered speaker would increase the volume but all it did was spread out the volume over a broader frequency range making it even more inaudible which surprised me as others have said it helped a great deal? Additionally it cuts off volume+ after unplugging the powered speaker and I need to reboot the KF to get the volume+ to work again. I would like to know if someone knows if there's a powered speaker out their that will boost the volume to a useable level for music and movies as it's nearly useless for that purpose now, Amazon wants us as consumers to buy there their audible products for the KF and needs to fix this problem with a patch or app. that will make this fine product useable for this purpose. Thank you if you can help
