Ok, I think i've discovered a huge flaw in the Kindle's abilities. Wanted to 'rent' a movie and download it to my Kindle. The reason I wanted to download it was because I was not going to be within a wifi hotspot - so I couldn't stream. It won't let me download rentals. Apparently, you can only download purchases. I don't want to purchase, I want to rent and be able to watch it anywhere. ...adding 3G would, of course, eliminate this problem. But I'm puzzled as to why you can't dowload rentals - if Fire isn't going to offer 3G, they ought to at least have a way for you to take your rental "off road", as it were, out of wifi range.

Does anyone know of a way to download rentals that I'm missing? Or has anyone heard if they are going to offer 3G on the Fire?

I rent movies and download them to my Fire all the time, however not all movies are available for rental.
Are you sure you are not in the free streaming section of the store? You cannot download those movies.

A. Dietz says:
There is no undiscovered "flaw" in the system. You can download rental movies, and with a recent software update to the Fire, the rental period doesn't start until you start playing the movie. You can't download any of the free streaming movies you get a a benefit of Prime membership, that's why they're called "streaming" movies.

Have you ever watched a movie over 3G? It's usually not a pleasant experience and will eat up a significant amount of your monthly data plan. If Amazon ever does offer 3G for the Fire, you will most certainly be paying for a data plan to have that feature.
