I am unable to delete a book from my kindle touch. instruction indicate to click down and hold the title and a drop down display will show a delete option. When I do that I get the drop down display but no delete option.

Is there something there like "send to archive/cloud?" That's the same as deleting from the device.

DanO says:
Yes send to archive but then the archive file is on my home page, so it never really goes away.

Dittie says:
The archive is just a list of what's not on that device so anything on that list isn't a file on the Kindle.

Mike says:
It's not supposed to go away. But, it is off your device. If you want to trash it permanently, you have to do that from your Manage Your Kindle page within your account.

In addition to Mike's comment about deleting from Manage Your Kindle, be aware that you wouldn't be able to download those titles again unless you bought them again.

DanO says:

Ha Helmbold says:
I might be wrong but isn't the "Manage my Kindle" option only available on the Amazon website? Why can't you delete a book permanently straight from your kindle?

Denis Powell says:
Ha, I think if it were easy to delete a book from the account from the "long touch" menu there may be a lot of people doing it accidentally and contacting Customer Services.

You can, of course, delete a book from Manage Your Kindle from the Kindle itself by using the browser and going to the website.

Think of it like this:
1) The list of books on your home page (or in collections) is the pile of books in your bag, that you carry round with you.
2) The list of books in your archive is the books that are on your bookshelf at home, that you could go and grab again if you want to re-read, but aren't immediately to hand.
3) Deleting books from your MYK page is like throwing them out; if you ever want to re-read them you'll need to buy another copy.
