I have successfully configured the Fire for inbound email (security type = None, Authentication type = PLAIN, Port = 110), but no luck with outbound email. Assistance appreciated.

I had the same problem setting it up with my mom's centurylink account. In the end I just used the Enhanced Email app, and it worked. The built in email app has a bug.

Bought and installed Enhanced Email ($10) and it worked. Much nicer. Had to fully-qualify the user name (@qwest.net) on the outbound mail setup.

I have the same problem, my inbound mail is fine but outbound does not work. I just spent over an hour on the phone with Amazon with them finally telling me to contact my provider to check the smtp setting, the security type and the port number. She actually sounded like she was just going down lists of things to check. I actually have everything configured like she thought it should be but still won't work. I will contact provider and if that doesn't help I will contact Amazon back and ask for the call to esculated to higher person. This should work. If inbound works then outbound should also.

I spent several hours on the phone today with amazon regarding my new kindle fire, then my Internet service provider, then amazon again regarding the same problem: outgoing email cannot be sent and just piles up in the outbox. Ámazon could not resolve and is referring the problem to their email app developer. They promise a reply in 3-5 days. Very frustrating. Will advise when I get a response.Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi

Felice, I'll be looking for your report from Amazon. I thought maybe I was the only one with this problem.

Felice, I also spent way over an hour last weekend with Amazon on the phone trying to get my outgoing email to work. At this point it still is not working. No problem with incoming. So, please post here if you get some type of resolution. Thanks, Terry in No. Calif.

As the OP, I'll make one more post (and then will stop monitoring this thread) just to reiterate that the Enhanced Email app is a good way to go. I downloaded it and it worked right away (fully qualify the user name in the outbound setup, see my prior post). If you're going to use the Fire for email, it's a lot nicer than the bundled emailer. You would be justified to complain about having to pay 10 more dollars just to get email working, but I think it is worth it, because Enhanced Email is a much better app. Good luck.

Dear Jolly Observer: When you used the Enhanced Email app were you able to configure it the same as what your computer has for email, in other words, the same settings as your ISP has for you? And, this may be stupid what is OP?

Terryk, yes, I basically used the same settings as from a Windows pc.

And OP stands for "original poster" or "original post."

Cheers

I was lucky to get the Enhanced Email app when it was the free app of the day.

Am thinking of getting kindle fire but can't find out if its email accepts my apple iPhone email. (Mac.com) address. Plus does amazon have a phone number where you can talk to real Person?

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 2, 2011 11:20:12 AM PST
Patricia, Yes you will get to talk to a real person, can't guarantee how much help they will be but they are real. I was on the phone for over an hour with one.

Well, it would appear that Amazon has a problem with the Kindle fire. There is no provider issue. This is strictly a Kindle Fire issue and, quite frankly I am now considering returning all three that I purchased as Christmas gifts. Somebody above mentioned the Enhanced Email application. Only thing I can find is the Android Enhanced Email application for $4.99. Quite honestly, I can predict the uproar this is going to cause immediately after Christmas. Very frankly, I am most disatisfied at this point.

I have the same problem. I cannot get Yahoo, Hotmail or my Gmail account work with the Kindle Fire email application. Called Amazon support and after spending an hour on the phone and getting directed to two different Kindle Fire "specialists" they asked for my number and they said they will call back in two business days...

I was on the phone with them yesterday for hours--between Kindle and Verizon. I keep getting the same message "invalid email and password". Have you, or anyone, out there figured it out yet? Or does anyone know if the Enchanced Email app fixes this problem?

For those who are trying to setup your gmail account on Kindle Fire, I just figured out why mine wouldn't work. If you have the two step verification program for your gmail, then it will not work. You have to remove the two step verification from your gmail settings and then your Kindle Fire will accept gmail. The two step verification is when you use a password and get a text to your phone with a verification code before you can sign in to your gmail account.
