My Kindle recognizes my Prime membership for the free viewing of the instant videos but not for the library of books. Is there special instructions that I need to follow?

J. Donahue says:
Depends.

How are you trying to borrow a book? What sort of error are you getting? Remember, you can only borrow ONE book PER calendar month.

Ok even on the Prime authorized books I have a limit of one free rental a month?

Are you trying to borrow the book using your Kindle? You can't do it from the computer.

Yes.

You can borrow only ONE Kindle Owners Lending Library (KOLL) book during a calendar month.

If you borrow a book on Jan 1st, finish reading it on Jan 15th, return it on Jan 15th, you can't borrow another book until Feb 1st.

Yes, the Kindle Owners Lending Library is limited to one book per calendar month per account. You can keep the book as long as you want, but you have to return it before you can get another one; even if you return it before the month is over, you can't borrow another until after the first of the next month.

Prime is a shipping program that's been around since long before Kindles existed.

Then they added a selection of free streaming-only videos. Woo-hoo! BONUS!

THEN!! They added a perk of *1* free Amazon-pays-you-read-it book per calendar month for Prime members. EXTRA BONUS!

So, yeah. It's just one. But it's a gimme through a program that's not FOR Kindles. It's just a perk for Prime owners who happen to HAVE Kindles.

This reminds me, I need to borrow my December book before the end of the month.

Which reminds me that I should try to finish my December one! :0)

My problem is that I love to re-read some of my series based books. So I never borrow anything.

But hey, that free shipping is paying off this year.

I know; it was hard to get into the swing of it. I borrowed Water for Elephants because some friends were talking about it. And I read Hunger Games. Then I borrowed a Halloween joke book on the fly for Cub Scouts, which turned out to be a bust.

Then I borrowed the WRONG book, and was like, "Oh, well." It was comically bad. Live and learn. Right now I have a little cozy mystery that's okay. It's cute, but I'm glad I didn't pay for it.

I just signed up for the free 30 days of prime right before Christmas. LOVE the free 2-day shipping. It was awesome considering I had procrastinated on my Christmas shopping. Prime saved the day. It's like getting that 1st class plane ticket using frequent flyer miles. I'll be paying the $79 because it's hard to go back to coach.

That's what I did in June. Streamed a couple of movies on my tablet, then bought a Roku. Prime's been worth every penny so far (Prime + Roku box, lol!) and I imagine we'll renew in the summer.

J. Donahue says:
Oh yeah, the Roku box is the BOMB. I've got Amazon Prime, Hulu+ and Netflix on it. I shut off my cable months ago...

I'm on the verge of turning off cable. Except for football games and local news, we haven't watched network TV in months. Not sure I can convince myself we can do without football right now. Maybe there will be other options by the time the 2013 seasons start, though...

In reply to an earlier post on Dec 26, 2012 12:55:58 PM PST
Another *woot* for Roku, here! If you have Prime, it does NOT make sense to NOT have a Roku! Just like, "...moving buddies! If you don't have one, GET one!"

Name that movie.

I was telling the guys at work about Amazon Prime/Roku, and they were like, "Wait. How do you get your sports?"

There was a lot of Tim the Tool Man noises when I said, "I don't."

LOL! I'll bet! Football is the only sport I like watching - I grew up watching games with my brother and my dad. I love watching the Olympics too. Both summer and winter Games.

I have a blu-ray player with wifi that I use to stream Amazon and Netflix. It will also do Hulu+
I don't cancel cable because there are some shows that I really like to watch as soon as they air and it takes month for them to come out in any other format.
