I have the Kindle HDX (7") as well as the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD, and last night connected the HDX up to use my Bluetooth receiver (BT00257) which is connected to a Bose dock speaker. Both the Fire and Fire HD work great over it, but I found that the audio level oscillates from low to high volume using the HDX. This occurred using different apps too such as YouVersion audio Bible, audiobook, and and also video. After recycling the power on the HDX the audio maintained a steady volume but resumed the soft/loud pattern this morning again. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Clearly it's not the BT receiver for it works well with other Kindle devices (and non Kindle alike), nor is it app dependent.

Maybe if the Kindle's battery gets low, it is unable to broadcast smoothly.
That's what happened to my Battery powered FM adapter for iPods (or anything with a 3.5mm headphone jack).

The BT device is powered through the Bose dock and has no internal power source. But good point.

I just talked to Kindle customer service on this issue and the technician told me that ONLY Nokia headsets work with the Kindle Fire HDX...unbelievable! I'm using a BT00257 and LG HBS730 successfully on Kindle Fire 8.9HD. I asked the customer service rep to show me this in writing and she couldn't. I'm waiting for a call from a supervisor for I was told that no one with greater technical expertise was available.

Bob - any resolution? I know it sounds completely different - but I wonder if there could be a possible "link" to this issue, and the one covered in the thread "Kindle Fire HDX dropping Wifi" - possibly some power management issue within the HDX? Yours is slightly more specific - I personally don't connect Bluetooth to speakers...but I do Bluetooth to a keyboard, and have seen no problems...have you heard from others with this issue? And, could it be just your particular HDX...perhaps you do have a "busted" HDX...and they should replace...

I use a keyboard and it works well, and haven't heard much from this. I've submitted another email for support hoping I might get some more detailed help. My get feeling is the audio driver portion of the HDX Bluetooth is unstable. The audio levels are constant when using the 3.5mm jack and also the build in speakers.

Thanks for the information. I will be looking for an update on the situation as I use a sony soundbar to stream music so a solid functioning bluetooth is essential!

Bob - have you discussed with them replacing your HDX? Or...do you have access to another one that you can try and see if it is isolated to your device, or is consistent across devices...

Amazon is shipping me out a replacement so I'll know this weekend. I hope this is it for it's really a fabulous tablet otherwise.

Bob...yeah, I am pretty happy with mine too...but have been trying to help some others work their wifi issues. Did you have any problems with wifi dropping its signal during Amazon video playbacks?

BAC says:
I'll have to check that out. But as I think about it it might have. But for video I've been using my Kindle HD 8.9 mostly because it's bigger screen. But I'll see if that's happening.

Bob, did your replacement also have this problem or was it resolved?

M. Ratcheson says:
FWIW, my bluetooth speaker, a Jawbone JAMBOX Wireless Bluetooth Speaker - Red Dot - Retail Packaging works well with my HDX. No issues at all. I've used it every day since the HDX was released. So the rep who said only Nokia headsets will work with the HDX is, um, misinformed.

BAC says:
Yes unfortunately it did have the same problem. I'm going to have to return both HDXs for I can't justify having an HDX if it can't work as well as the original Fire HD. Moreover neither works with Gmail and I was going to sideload the Gmail app as a work around. It's too bad Amazon messed up big on these for there are some great features I'm going to miss. Having a fantastic HD image without sound doesn't make a bit of sense. Maybe on the next one they inevitably come out within a year will work. For now I'll stick with what's working.

I'm having the same issue. Although, it sounds like it's a software fix, so ill certainly continue to use my HDX.

I have that same speaker and the HDX will not connect. Called kindle cs and they said they will get back to me.

I have a LG HBS-730 Bluetooth that worked very well with the Kindle Fire HD. My LG headset when used with my Kindle Fire 8.9 HDX also fluctuates the volume from very high to very low. Voice conversations seem somewhat normal but when music or loud sound effects come on the volume increases to almost a painful level. This volume change only occurs with a BT connection and not with wired ear buds or speakers. I use the HDX and headset several times a week when on the treadmill and find this quite frustrating.

We are having a similar problem when paired via Bluetooth to a BOSE SoundLink Mobile Speaker II.

I have the same issue when playing music over BT headphones. I also watch Prime videos, and haven't noticed the problem there, but the sound isn't constant on most shows, unlike music where I can notice some aberrations in playback.

Could it be resolved with a driver update by Amazon? Has anyone gotten official word on possible improvements? It's the main annoyance I have with the Kindle Fire HDX. (Well, aside from not having Google Play available easily).

I still haven't heard a word further on this from Amazon.

I reported the problem to Amazon Customer Service and they replied that the LG HBS-730 Bluetooth headset I have was not compatible with the HDX. The Customer Service representative provided me with a short list of modestly priced headsets that were compatible with the HDX. I ordered one, the "ARCTIC P311 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones". So far they have worked properly and without issue. There must be something in the handling of Bluetooth that Amazon has done differently with the HDX models compared to the HD since all Bluetooth headsets/earbuds do not work well on the HDX. Hopefully a future software patch will cure this problem.

BAC says:
I hope so. My BT speakers are not usable at all. Amazon needs to advertise that the HDX has very limited BT capability.

I have the HDX as well and I am unsuccessful in my efforts to pair with the Jawbone Jambox Wireless Bluetooth Speaker. No information is available from the Jawbone website on how to connect wirelessly. However, I've had no problem connecting with my Jaybird Freedom Bluetooth Wireless Headphones (JF3). Sounds like Amazon will be of no help on this issue.

I also have this issue, with an altrec, and the Oontz angle both are virtually unusable because it's so unstable. All other devices function great. Bummed. Please fix this.
