On the Kindle Touch, can you look up a word by touching it? or do you still have to scroll through the page with buttons?

Read the production description page. It says touch to bring up a dictionary definition.

Touch and hold the word. It will be highlighted with a black box, and then the definition comes up. Just tap on the page to close the definition box.

currently my touch says that I don't have a dictionary on my device, when the new oxford american dictionary is staring right back at me . . . what's the issue here?

In my kindle for pc when I look for a word in the dictionary I can click the small wheel icon on the top right and it shows me a list of available dictionaries. I have in fact dowloaded the Duden Deutsches... dictionary for free and it pop us whenenver I look for a word in German.
My point is why this is not possible in my kindle touch? Probably I don't know how to, can anyone help me? Thanks.

Well people, I have a question. I have download a page in English Language from internet and I've converted it with Calibria to a kindle format to read it in my beautiful Kindle touch. But, when I wanted to use the dictionary it didn't work. The message that I read was: "Dictionary not found for this book's language. To download a dictionary, go to Archived Items". Somebody could say to me what does it happend? How may I fix this problem? tahnk you a lot. Omar Jesus Hurtado from Argentina.

Well I have posted the same problem. But I realize that happend with docs don't download from amazon market. I think there is not a relationship between the docs and the dictionary but I don't know how fix it.

I've been using The New Oxford American Dictionary by default which was working well until today when I tapped on a word and it says "There are no dictionaries on your device. To download a dictionary, go to Archived Items." The dictionary is still on my Kindle but there is zero items under Archived Items. I don't remember accidentally tweaking any of the settings. Help please!

I was having the same problem. I couldn't find any answers on the internet, so I decided to archive the dictionary and then re-download it. After I did that, it worked.

Can someone help me on this? I am thinking of buying the Kindle Touch, but before I invest in my purchase, I would like to know if internet connection is required to look up words, AKA using the dictionary? Do I need to have wifi or any type of internet connection to look up the definition of words?

Thanks Zanzibar, for the reply. Just to clarify, no internet connection is needed, such as the 3g as well?

Had dictionary in original Kindle. Had to change my credit card and lost the dictionary. How canI get the free dictionary back on my Kindle?

In reply to an earlier post on Mar 19, 2014 12:40:18 PM PDT
Those two things should not have had anything to do with one another.

Go to Manage Your Kindle, here at Amazon, and search the word "dictionary", then re-download it to your device.

I've been trying to use the built in Chinese dictionaries with a Kindle Touch, but they only seem to recognise individual charactors and only when their is a space on either side of them. Since lots of Chinese words are more than one charactor long and spaces are rarely used the dictionaries pretty useless. Anyone have a solution?
