hello fellow kindle e-readers: i've been wanting to get a kindle fire, but have decided to patiently wait for the Fire 2 when it comes out later this year. my main question is: i've heard that its really hard to read it outside in the daylight/sun!...that the screen is hard to see in the sunlight! this true??.....because that might be the only thing that might stop me from purchasing the kindle fire...........i love to sit outside during my lunch break & read.....and i do have a kindle keyboard that works perfect in the daylight/outside.......anyone knows about this issues or have an opinion?

Vikki, the Fire has an LCD backlit screen, like a monitor or tablet. It is not good for reading in the sun. The e-ink models are great outside, and IMO they have a superior reading experience overall.

Any LCD tablet, including the revolutionary new iPad is difficult to read in the full sun.

The Fire has a backlit LCD screen, just like a laptop or smartphone or iPad. It's not very good for outdoor reading.

The e-ink Kindles, on the other hand, are great in bright sunlight. I have a Kindle Touch for reading books, and I use the Fire indoors, for email, web, games, etc.

Any devise (of any size) that delivers HDTV-quality picture will not work well outside: K-Fire is designed to view movies on (awesome picture quality, by the way). Still, there is an option that I use; if you just want to read a book, you can adjust the settings: with your book open, that little pop-up bar at the bottom of Fire (w/the Home button on it) has an "Aa" option that allows users to change the background colors and text colors; make the background black, the print text white, then increase the font size up a bit, and there you go! Pick a shade tree and enjoy your e-book!

I have a Kindle Keyboard and a Kindle Fire. I do not use the Fire outside because of the reading problem. You can sync your Fire to the Keyboard so you can read from the same place.

I normally do not read outside so that is not a problem for me. I usually do most of my reading on the Fire--just like it better.

No it is impossible to read the kindle outside, even in the shade. I was really disappointed after purchasing it to find that it is basically only useable indoors. I don't understand why they don't have an e-ink option where the backlight can be turned off. For me it means that it is no good for holidays or trips. I have reverted to my nook, not so stylish but at least I can read it.

An e-ink/LCD screen is not economically feasible at this time, i.e. you would probably have to pay at least $1,000.
