That would explain a lot in regard to his situation. Thanks!

My kindle fire is stuck in the horizontal mode. The screen won't go back to the vertical position.

Tap the gear Icon. Then in the left upper corner tap the padlock icon

My kindle I purchased 18 months ago has stopped working and I am told I will need to purchase a new one, it can't be fixed. Is this common? Will I have to purchase a new Kindle every year or so. Does anyone have one that does work well for over two years. I am really dissapointed in Amzon over this.

I have a 3 year old that works like new.

These tablets should not be going bad.I have a warranty but even at that you should get a new one to replace the one of 18 months

J. Donahue says:
And why is that?

If your car breaks down after the warranty has expired, do you expect the dealer to replace it?

If your cell phone breaks after the warranty has expired, do you expect it to be replaced for free?

What part of one-year warranty is unclear to you?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 7, 2012 9:03:42 AM PDT
The part where it ends! LOL!

I don't want my warranty to start until I have the first problem with the device. Then it should last twice as long as the listed time.

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 7, 2012 9:53:20 AM PDT
According to others, that's how it should be! The warranty shouldn't begin until you have your first out of warranty issue. Seems reasonable, no? LOL!

Same problem for us. Pressing any letter or key produces the letter z.

J. Donahue says:
There may be something on your keyboard z key that causes the key to engage when the page turn button is pressed.

I would try some canned air and attempt to blow out whatever is holding the letter z down on your keyboard.

Also, you can **VERY GENTLY** take a small pin or needle and run it around the outside of the z key.

Do you have page forward buttons on both sides of your device? If so are both page forward buttons resulting in the letter "z"?

J. Donahue says:
Call Amazon Customer Service. It's out of warranty but they may offer you a discount on a new Kindle.

I have a screen issue, It looks like an ad was pasted to the bottom portion of my screen and won't go away. I have rebooted twice and nothing changed. If I try to read a book I can only see the top half. I have a Kindle with ads.
Has any one had this problem? can it be fixed or do I take it back. I bought in June.
Thanks
