Kindle Fire cannot connect to internet

It might be wiser to spend $40 on a router than $600 on an ipad that might well also find your old router not up to spec.

You are more patient than I am, Jeff. My KF is going back to the BIG BOX store for refund and apply the $$$ to buy an iPad.

I feel your pain, Sandy. My patience ran out the day after Christmas when the KF continues to fail to connect to WiFi. I am returning it to the BIG BOX store and buying an iPad.

The only connectivity problems I seem to be experiencing currently is getting the KF to reconnect after not being connected for awhile. I have to turn off my security protection on the router, let it connect and then turn it back on. The KF goes online while unsecured then as I'm re-securing the router it loses the connection but then reconnect OK after I'm done re-securing the router. Never have to reenter the password or anything and it stays connected as long as I'm using it but if I turn it off it (sometimes not always) loses the connection and will not reconnect until I do as described. Any ideas?

Mine worked perfectly until this morning, and nothing I did for 3 hours, would give me a wi-fi connection. Resetting the router did not work, so I went to my wi-fi connection on the Fire, told it to "forget it" instead of trying yet again, went to "add new wi-fi", re-entered my SSID and passkey and it has been fine ever since.

Losing WiFi connection after rebooting cable company Internet modem and router (turning off/on). Why and how to fix for good? Then I remembered my Geek Squad tech support contract. Contacted them via chat (open late Christmas Day), tech guy took control of my computer, updated Netgear router firmware in a few minutes. KF reconnected after firmware updated. Might not refund KF after all. Wait and see if device maintains connection.

Wifi Works but no internet connection. A previous suggestion recommended that we unpluging the power to the wifi router to reset it. That fixed my internet connection. Wife is now smiling. Merry Xmas all!!!

Annemarie, I had the same problem, went to "add a network" typed in the SSID and the password and it worked immediately.

I just updated my wife's new Fire with the 6.2. I downloaded it to PC first than connected the KF via USB and copied the update to the KF update folder, then go into Settings > More > Device Settings and update. After it went through the updated it connected without a problem.

Before you go looking for a usb adapter look around your house, one of your phone adapters may fit or if you have another kindle use that one....

When I try to connect to the WiFi in my house, it either says the password doesn't match or that it's unable to connect because there was a problem. I have a Linkseys router. Could that be the problem, or is it something else? Lots of people are saying they upgraded to the 6.1 and 6.2 version on the Kindle fire and the problem was solved, but how do you upgrade it? What do you do to upgrade to either one of thoese versions?

This might not have much to do with your post, Matriarch One, but how did you get the 6.2 upgrade? A lot of people have been saying the 6.1 version works but that it also doesn't do anything. I've also seen that the 6.2 version doens't and does work but there are more yes's than no's. So, I simply want to know how you figured out how to upgrade to the 6.2 version?

Try checking your router's firmware to be sure its up to date. I tried everything else that had been suggested and nothing worked. I noticed my routers firmware was from 2006, so I updated it to the most recent release (Oct 2009 for my Linksys) and now my Kindle fire connects with no problem.

I had the same problem. I've had up to 8 wireless devices connect OK but not KF. Returned one KF ,2nd didn't work either. Long and short, I upgraded to a new router and all is OK now. Shouldn't have had to do it , but that was the fix

Rebooting your router should solve the problem. Kindle doesn't need a static IP address. If you already have wireless devices in your home rebooting you router should work. Unplug, wait a minute, plug back in, retry to connect to your wifi network on you Kindle.
