I am really disappointed with Kindle Fire. I have iPad already but I was getting this for my 9 yrs. old son who promise to read more if I get him a tablet. So I did my research and I like the Kindle Fire over Nook Tablet because unlike the Nook and iPad, the Kindle Fire has a better parental controls. I can turn the apps off when i want my son to read rather than playing games on the tablet. I wish the new replacement they are sending me will be better but from what I am reading here my hopes are not high. Please Amazon, fix this bug soon!

I am having the same problems!! It is very frustrating. Had I known this was the case I would have purchased a more basic ereader or the ipad.

If you are within your warranty period of a year, you can send it back and try another one. If you are within 30 days, you can send it back for a refund. After I had 3 readers which had the problem but it was beyond the 30 days, Amazon did allow me to return it with a not quite full refund. I cannot remember the discount amount, but at the time I thought it was reasonable. I have always been happy with Amazon return policies on their products, and I thought they did pretty well on this for me. I have since bought an iPad, which I love. But it cost many times what the Fire cost, which I was trying to avoid, LOL. And, incidentally, I got the 4g model, which works great. For $20 a month I have access any time anywhere, and the $20 covers basics like reading email and googling and facebook. It would not be enough to watch videos etc. But the 4g appears as fast as wi-fi, and it is simply wonderful to have it on the road, in the doctor's office, anywhere there isn't wi-fi available.

How do you play your touch game without the screen moving? I was putting together a jigsaw puzzle---it worked for a while and then when I tried to move a piece the screen moved.

my kindle had jumping issues when I first used it. I would scroll down on the screen click a link and it would jump to the top of the page and whatever was positioned under my finger would be where I was taken to. it took a while but I learned how to use my kindle properly where that issue stopped happening. then it started having the issue of the screen shutting off out of nowhere I noticed this happened only when it was in my case. it's an issue it has with magnetically held close cases. rotating the kindle and having it upside down in the case solved that issue. and just today my kindle was having issues with the touch screen. I removed the case, cleaned the screen and my hands. on the verge of tears I tried removing the charger thinking it wouldn't do anything. and suddenly the screen worked. I admit that the whole time I've been in the same spot, same amount of low lighting the whole time. so luckily it was not that issue or I would have cried

So I just came to this area of the net looking for a way to re-calibrate my screen so that it's not typing four letters that I'm not pressing (it's even making an orange line like I'm dragging when I'm holding my finger/stylus perfectly still) and from what I've read... there is abso-flippin-lutely nothing I can do about it. I thought maybe there was some kind of program IN the system that would do that (if even Nintendo had the forethought to do it for the DS nearly ten years ago, why didn't Amazon have the forethought to do that for the Kindles? Herpaderp...).

I don't know if you guys had this same problem but I have found that when I hook my Fire up to the computer while it's turned off as if to charge (I usually charge it with a charger in a socket, not on my desktop) and turn it on WHILE HOOKED UP, it seems to correct itself... SEEMS... I'll update if it happens again. This is kind of silly that so many people are having this problem that could have probably been easily dealt with if a program for calibration and sensitivity was integrated into the software... But then I'm not all that tech smart so what do I know about tablets? (Probably more than amazon, I'm thinking, at this point...)

Good luck, guys.

(This is the kind of Kindle I have; in case anyone's curious about it.)

I am on my third (2nd replacement) Kindle Fire. This one is the 2nd generation KF. I have only had it about a month, and now it's doing exactly what you described. The other two messed up because they suddenly quit charging. A new charger wouldn't work, etc. The cord was replaced, still wouldn't charge very long. Now this one, it charges fine, but the past few days it's like it's gotten possessed or something. I'll be watching Netflix and all of a sudden the screen starts jumping, fast forwarding through the show, freezing, then jumping. Random apps open and close when I'm trying to do something and I just stop and watch as if some invisible finger is rapidly touching and opening different random apps on the screen and just as quickly closing them. ????? I have no idea what is going on. It's weird. And irritating. I'm on my third kindle, and Amazon customer service has been great but this table leaves a lot to be desired. I rebooted, didn't help. Scanned for viruses using three different apps. They say it's clean. I don't know, I guess I'll be contacting Amazon support again. Sigh. This is really getting old. Did you get yours straightened out?

Mine has started doing the same thing, and I am also on my third kindle fire. However, mine has nothing to do with the kind of lamp you are talking about because mine has done this wild screen touch thing in low light in my kitchen and bright light on my desk. I don't have the kind of lamp you mentioned either. Just a cheap desk lamp with a basic bulb in it. It's really annoying when I'm trying to use one app and it just randomly closes and others start rapidly opening and closing as if someone is touching the screen quickly moving their finger around. Freaky. :(

I hate to say this because I'm an Amazon fan, but I sent my kindle fire back and sprang for a 4g ipad 3. Never been happier though it costs more. It works flawlessly anywhere, and for $20 a month I have wi-fi anywhere at any time. It's really cool, my go to tool, and I don't leave home without it.

My first Kindle Fire was smashed, so I traded it for a new one. I got the one I have now last Friday, and it was fantastic! Until earlier today, the screen froze and didn't do anything. I tried turning it off and on again, and that seemed to help, but I couldn't do anything on it. I couldn't even get in. I tried to shut it down, but since the screen wasn't responding, I can't shut it down or do anything, only turn the screen on and off via the power button. Do I trade it in again, or just wait and see if it works?

M. Francis says:
Try a re-boot. Disconnect the charging cable. Press the power button in and hold it for 30 seconds (time it). Release it, press it in and release it. Now leave it alone for 5 minutes. That should do it.

My kindle fire has sucked since the day I got it. The touch only works intermittently. It freezes to the point that it won't even turn off. I know this is a common problem with kindle fire and have no idea why. The touch screen technology is old and was perfected when Kindle fire was developed. There is nothing that could make up for this flaw in the kindle fire. If you cannot access something easily or at all the whole thing is worthles. I should have turned it in when I first go it. Now I am stuck with the frustration and never know if I will be able to use it or not.

I've had the same problem on 4 different Kindles (currently on replacement 3). Completely given up on kindles, which is a shame as I really like them when they work. At least the Amazon support team are very good about sorting replacements and refunds.

Hmm, could it be your attitude, or just your inability to put the problem into words?

My Kindle Fire HD key board was acting up and pressing several keys across the screen when I touched it. When I moved it away from my lamp and my laptop, it started working normally again.
