Is your wi-fi router set to N-only? It has to be in g/b compatibility mode, because the Kindle cannot connect to N-type wi-fi.

I had the same problem and called Amazon tech support. You have to do a factory reset (which you can do yourself through the Kindle menu). Kind of a pain but it solved the problem.

I have a kindle touch and it connects fine to my router at home but if I want to go to Starbucks, it doesn't work. It asks for a password even though Starbucks doesn't require a password. Help!

Make sure you're really on the Starbuck's network. You may be picking up a nearby network that DOES require a password.

Worked for me, also. After using my Kindle for months, all of a sudden, I couldn't download books.
I happened to see this question and checked for the answer and it worked. Thank you.

i just recvd a kindle touch, and i don't have a seperate router in my laptop does not need one. when i clicked on the wifi networks, 11 came up, all locked but 1. if i choose the 1 that is not locked, it allows me to connect. here are my questions: if i do use this network to download books, will anybody be able to see my information? I think this must belong to someone in the complex if i do use it, will i be hindering them in some way, or should i just get an inexpensive router for my kindle or download thru my laptop?
Thanks for your help

My Kindle touch doesn't work anymore at ANY Starbucks.

Can somebody tell me why? Their staff had no clue.

ATTWIFI doesn't like Kindle?

Hi Patty
I had the same problem with my Kindle Touch after a few months being dormant. I saved my docs onto my computer before going into <<Home/Menu/Settings/Menu/REset to Factory Default Settings. Once it restarts, it will prompt you to enter your Amazon account email address and Password. It seems to work for my Kindle. Remember to save all your docs as you will need to save them back into your Kindle, which may save some of these into your "Archived Items" on your Home page. Good luck!

My kindle touch connected to my wifi router when I first got the device. Now it cannot see any wifi signals. None! I know the router is on, because all of our computers connect to the internet via the wifi. I have reset the device twice. When I have been elsewhere, it still cannot see any signals. I am guessing it is broken already. Not very impressive if that is the case.

I had to reset (not just restart) my Kindle Touch to get WiFi to work. Anyways thanks for the tip!

After doing a couple hard restarts with no luck, I tried " menu-settings-menu-reset" and it worked! Thank you!

Same issue with Kindle Touch Was working fine until a day or so ago. I have restarted the Kindle and my Router with no affect. The Wifi SSID is broadcasting and no issues with other Wifi devices. Any other ideas people ? Thanks

I enjoy this forum but it isn't a replacement for Customer Service. When you call Customer Service and state a rational problem they have a response on their computer that takes you step-by-step what you need to do and if at the end of all the steps it isn't working the person you're talking to can arrange a replacement.

Try customer service. It's free and they rarely ever scream at people.
