Lovefilm isn't available on kindlefire anymore, as it now needs Silverlight installed. You can get netflix though.

OMG. This post just answered my horror story of questions as I just bought a Fire for my husband (still in the UK). Was so dissapointed glancing through thinking we'd have to return it! :D

Only question would be, is the UK charger adapter for the older Kindles acceptable to charge it from the wall outlet, or will it have to USB trickle-charge?

I Have had a Kindle Fire since December and think that for the price it is fantastic, especially the audio books and email access.

For apps and to light up your fire outside of the USA do the following , go to the control wheel in the top RH corner of the screen and tap on that , then go to "more" tap on that , then scroll down to "device" tap on that , when that screen opens go to "allow installation of apllications" ( from outside sources ) change the setting from NO to YES , ignore the warning about malware that comes up (we deal with this a bit later ) now go back to the main screen and go to WEB , then go to www.getjar.com , once on the web page of getjar look at the top RH side of the screen and you will see three lines , the bottom one is "set your device" click on that , i think it brings you to another small page but whatever you need to type in to the question it asks you KINDLE FIRE , now your device is set to the getjar site , now you can download thousands of apps for FREE ( which amazon customers pay for !!! ) the first app you download is 'lookout' this checks every app you download that it is safe first , then what do you want ? angry birds ? cut the rope? , fruit ninja ? they are all there , if you want to stream movies and music to your kindle fire or have your home pc in your hand without connector cables then look at the brilliant app "splashtop" and one app you surely cannot miss is "tune in radio pro " enjoy best regards Mike Kirby

Sorry cannot help you with the charger story the kindle fire is my first kindle and I have no idea if this previous model charger would work or not, I think you should read through the threads or ask Amazon hope you find out Mike

Thanks Bruce , just been thinking about it , the connection is a mini USB , i have charged mine with the charger from my blackberry , but that charger does not work as well as the kindle fire one , there are threads about this apparently the kindle Fire charger gives a stronger quicker charge , Mike

Hemingway: how did you get LoveFILM to work on the K Fire? It won't work for me as the site insists on Silverlight.

HI I'm currently in Fort lauderdale and just 2 days ago bought 2 kindle fires as no one told us it would not work in UK. You seem to know all the tricks, would you advise me to take it back now and argue the the toss for a refund or stick with it and you can maybe guide me through various download and installation issues? How to get bbc inlayer would be a start. Is there anything I can download her in USA that will make it easier?etc without cloud does it mean you have to transfer movies across every time you want to watch one? thanks for your time.

Hi!
I'm sure they'll have a 14 day money back thing in place.

On my kindle fire I use it for Netflix, bbc I player, 4od, angry birds and books. Most apps can be downloaded for free from www.1mobile.com. If you need a full walk through, let me know.

No cloud in uk yet, so I use my laptop to transfer files and films. Bit of a pain!

Knowing what you know would you still buy a fire or another model? thanks

In reply to an earlier post on May 9, 2012 11:51:23 AM PDT
@zepalm says:
I'd still buy the fire. It's great value for money! Half the price of an iPad, plus small enough to hold to read books and watch Netflix. I wish I'd bought a few to sell on!

Please can you explain step by step what moves I need to make. Would key email address help? Can you tell me more about net Netfix.

@zepalm says:
On your kindle, goto settings (top right of screen) then click 'more' then 'device'. Change 'allow installation of applications' to yes.

Then open browser and go to www.1mobile.com and let it install their app.

Open app, get free apps!

Hello M . Hemmingway try www.getjar.com its a really great app site and all FREE plus "slide me" I personally prefer both these sites to 1 mobile, and re watching movies, streaming them and music plus getting your Pc in your hands without cables I highly recommend the brilliant "splashtop" app on getjar regards Mike Kirby, kindle fire owner in South Africa

Michael I was about to follow these instructions and went to installation of applications but when the warning came up I got nervous to go any further without knowing what the implications were. Please can you explain the bit you were going about how to deal with later, but now. Thanks for your help.

In reply to an earlier post on May 10, 2012 12:20:13 PM PDT
Mrs Roberts ignore the warning then carry on to www.getjar.com and now you have changed the setting you can download apps from Getjar the first one should be the app "lookout" as it scans every app to make sure it is safe before you can download it ,taking care of the warning you ignored Mike
