I just want to put Instagram on my Kindle Fire- could someone tell me if there's anywhere to get it other than Googleplay or how to sideload? Thank you!

@H. Peacock

You cannot access GooglePlay of sites associated with GooglePlay, with the Amazon Kindle Fire.

You can find, download and install Android Applications, from:

http://www.1mobile.com/

http://www.getjar.com/

http://www.freewarelovers.com/

I found helpful information here:

http://www.greenapplebooks.com/how-read-google-ebooks-your-kindle-fire

This links you to a local independent bookseller and you can download e-books published from Google. I downloaded the app seamlessly, entered my Google user info, and immediately had access to my Google ebook. It's through a local university bookstore, so I feel confident with security.

Hope that helps someone!

Kaoz Kaiser says:
Well I sideloaded an app that work-ish. The app wont let me proceed unless my device (I.e kindle fire) is sync'd to google play since it is online oriented app. Is there anyway around it?

Same here, hope someone can help. :) I've got Google Play, but it asks me to sync it to an account and when I try, it crashes. :(

A. Dietz says:
It crashes because you can't register your Kindle Fire as a device on Google Play. There is no help to offer since there is no fix for this. See the post from Michael E. Burk three posts above yours for alternate places to get apps.

Are there any sites I can go to to get Harry Potter apps? They don't have very many on the sites mentioned before. :/

Mr.Bill says:
I use ---1mobile Market--- GetJar----and---- 4shared---

Between the 3 I can get pretty much any app I need.. Not every single one, but pretty close.

What apps do you want from google play?

So what you are saying is that without jumping through hoops I can't easily get apps from Google Play. Let me get this straight, you offer the Where's My Water app at the Amazon store, But not Where's My Perry app? My kids love Phineus and Ferb and Where's My Water. The marriage of the two is brilliant, if only my kids could get the game and play it.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 13, 2012 9:26:31 AM PDT
We don't offer anything, since we are customers.

You can contact the developers of the apps that you would like and see if they have submitted their app to Amazon.

In reply to an earlier post on Jul 13, 2012 9:30:04 AM PDT
Bufo Calvin says:
K., whether that app is available or not is up to the publisher, in this case, Disney.

I would write to them and let them know.

Amazon does review apps submitted to the Amazon Appstore, but since Disney has been able to meet the requirements (does not hurt the Kindle Fire, works on the Kindle Fire) with other apps, they presumably could so with this app.

Amazon allows people to install apps from outside the Amazon Appstore (there is a setting to do that on your Kindle Fire), but they can't take responsibility for them, of course.

People have a choice: download approved apps from Amazon, and/or get apps from other sources and take the risks. I think that's a good thing.

Hopefully, you contacting Disney will help them consider making the app available directly from the Amazon Appstore.

To allow unreviewed apps:

Settings Gear - More - Device

Let me get this strait. You have knowledge of "GooglePlay" which is not available to the Kindle Fire. Yet you have no idea of how to do a "google search" ?

Well I will try and help. The places below are website's that you can download third party "Android Application".

1mobile.com

getjar.com

freewarelovers.com

and there are several other's.

The link below will give you "Where's My Perry?"

It actually took less time for find it, than it did to read your post!

Q says:
Tom,
How can you call people on your Kindle Fire? It has no microphone so no one will be able to hear your voice.

Q says:
K M Robinson,
Yes, my wife has the Xoom, and she is having problems with several Amazon pay-for movies. The same movies on Google work fine. Turns out that Amazon uses a codec on some of their movies that don't work well on some of the tablets like the Xoom. Those same Amazon movies play awesomely on my Fire.

Q, just to clarify, you can record voice on a Kindle Fire, using a TRRS...Tip Ring Ring Sleeve microphone plugged into the headphone jack. However, I haven't had someone tell me they've been able to make phone calls. :)

Tip Ring Ring Sleeve microphone for the Fire's headphone jack? The first I've heard of it. Thanks for sharing that, Bufo!

Bufo Calvin says:
K.,

Where's My Perry?

is now available in the Amazon Appstore for the Kindle Fire.

Sometimes, these things just take a bit of time, as they need to be formatted for a specific device, and then Amazon needs to test that it won't hurt the Fire and will work on it before they approve it.

Hope your kids enjoy it!

I bought the Kindle Fire, and I originally could use Google Docs. Suddenly, they moved everything to Google Drive, which was impossible to install on the Kindle. I need this for many reasons: I am the member of an ACLU chapter, and we have implemented Google Docs as an answering machine, and a private listserve for communications and discussions of current issues. Now my device is disabled. This was not advertised in any way. I assume its a war between Google and Amazon. I hate you both.
