The restart and the reset did nothing for me. Honestly regretting buying this already and it's only been two hours.

I am having the same problem. I have it turned all the way up, and it still can barely be heard. I have to turn off everything that makes any sound, it order to hear the Kindle.

The problem appears to be application specific with Netflix and HBO Go the worst offenders. Rebooting the KFHD has resolved the problem each time I've encountered it.

I have same issue sometimes. I have found out that if you pause and hit play again it will work fine after that.

Same here on some occasions. Not consistently but when it doesn't work, rebooting does.

I had the same problem no sound when it was turned up full,
I downloaded 'QuickMute volume control' from the app store.
It let me turn up the media volume back up and problem solved.

Hi Lenore, thanks for the great suggestion on installing a volume app! Unfortunately you did not say which one exactly helped you, so I tried several which did not make a change, until I got "Volume Master Free [Apps for Android]" - this app asked me if I want to reset the current device audio setting and as I agreed to it, the sound came back!! Hooray!
I had previously tried a hard reboot and changing the volume on apps to max, but that didn't solve it. I didn't want to do a factory reset until it was really necessary! And it was not! Those still trying to fix the problem, try this app. Once the sound is back to normal, you can safely uninstall this app. You are not bound to it to keep the volume on. Good luck all! :)

I'm having this exact same issue, it's done it in the Netflix app and a few other apps as well. This just started a few days ago.

My KF's sound goes out in the middle of movies. We have to pause or start the movie over to get the sound back. Very annoying for the kids and more so for the parents that have to keep fixing it.
