No new news yet. It will most likely be Feb/March before they allow shipping to international customer from the .com website.

They still have a large backlog of shipments to get out to thier US customers and it will get worse the closer it gets to the Holidays.

in France they're looking at Feb 4th for shipping now (was Nov 4th for the 3G one)

Yeah, overall I'd probably rather have the PaperWhite, but at this point I'm probably gonna go for a Glo just on principle. Amazon is all about ordering online and shipping and they can't even get their act together well enough to be able to ship over the border? For a company that is purely based on shipping things, they can only offer excuses, not reasons, why they aren't shipping here.

I'm sure they don't care about losing one customer, but after singing all the praises for my old Kindle (keyboard), I'd rather not have to drop out. But if my only choices are to wait an uncertain amount of time while people less than two hours' drive from here can enjoy it or grab something else, I'll opt for the second and say goodbye to Amazon. Personally, I find it stupid that they don't sell the Kindle in (physical) stores, anyway.

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Glo. I was a Kindle freak for quite some time. I have owned the 3, 4, touch and then the latest upgraded 4. Unable to get the PW I thought I was 'settling' for the Glo but I am very pleased with it and love the sleep cover as well.

Since even the people in the states that order today have a delivery date of Dec. 21, I can't see what your complaint is. It's not like the Americans are getting a Paperwhite in 3 days or something.

They do sell Kindles in (physical) stores. The fact that there is a short supply on this one means that Best Buy, etc have been unable to get stock. If the physical units don't exist, I'm not sure how you can complain that they're not in stores. There has to be stock before the store can put them out for the customers.

I wonder why Amazon didn't anticipate needing more stock?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 14, 2012 12:28:32 PM PST
Or maybe there were unforeseen problems in the supply chain. It happens but I doubt we will ever know exactly why.

When these devices change and upgrade so quickly I think they should have been better prepared. They pay the consequences by people moving on to a provider who has stock. The devices aren't that different. I was loyal to Amazon but wanted a "new" lighted gadget. Amazon didn't have one for me. *shrugs*.

Heh, well, you kinda pointed out some complaints yourself. People in the states (complaint #1 - restricted ordering to the States) that order today have a delivery date of Dec. 21 (complaint #2 - no date has been specified for us Canadians, we're still waiting to just find out how much longer we'll be waiting).

Your second point is correct, about selling Kindle in stores. But, again, only in the States. For example, the American Best Buy website lists them. Canadian - nada (no Kindle models at all).

So...you really can't see why any of this is valid? Waiting for an order to ship is one thing (and, in this case, would be acceptable), but we have to wait to find out how long it'll be before we're able to order, and then we get to wait until then, place our orders, then wait (again) for the order to ship. Or go with another device that has decent distribution and get it today. Amazon dropped the ball on international support and lost at least one customer. Cite the rush to market, whatever, but the bottom line is it was a poor release for a nice piece of hardware that isn't quite superior enough to make me wanna wait several months.

(Sorry, I didn't want this to turn into an argument, but I guess that's kinda what I've done here...)

Lol, touche. Nothing to really get upset about. It's just that I spent the last month waiting for an iPhone 5 to get shipped to me. Guess I should stick to old technology and stay away from ordering stuff online.

CBRetriever says:
not only in the States, they're also selling Kindle Paperwhites in Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, France and Japan. And the irish and Belgians are screaming as loud as the Canadians about not being able to buy them

and last time Amazon released first to the world and then to the Kindle Stores several weeks later nd we had to wait in France (still are: se the Feb 4th delivery date I listed above)

Us Canadians even disown all those who leave their homeland and move to Florida. They are referred to as snow birds and are not allowed to come back.
