No flash player on Kindle Fire HD?

The version of Flash I got for Dolphin browser was 11.1 but the Pearson Etext/MyMathLab site only supports versions 11.2 or higher.

So I sideloaded the Puffin browser and it worked liked a charm!

The Puffin browser is only downloadable from the Amazon Appstore for non-kindle devices. However, you can install this on your android phone, and then use ES File Explorer to send the apk to your kindle for install. This is safer than downloading an apk from a random website.

On a side note, I discovered that the Puffin browser allows me to watch Amazon Instant Video on my android phone, so that is a plus.

As auntscrewy notes, Adobe stopped developing Flash for Android with version 11.1. It's interesting that Puffin, like Amazon Silk, provides support for Flash by routing all your browsing through their own servers. I see that the free version of Puffin supports Flash for only 2 weeks on a trial basis. After that you have to buy the full version to continue Flash support, but it is certainly cheap enough if you have a device that lets you order through Google Play.

I ordered it through the Amazon Appstore for my phone and emailed the apk to myself using ES File Explorer

Unfortunately, Amazon frequently has only very old versions of apps, making it a poor source even for those apps it does stock. That's why I've replaced most of the apps I've acquired from Amazon over the past 9 months with apks from other sources. In the case of the Puffin web browser, Amazon is selling version 2.4.9076 and claiming it doesn't work on the KFHD. Google Play is selling version 3.0.9998 of Puffin, updated on 8/27/2013. 1MobileMarket has the free version 3.0.9864 updated on 8/13/2013, but the free version has only time-limited Flash support. A full description of what's new in Puffin 3 is at

Thankyou. I didn't even look at that. I may have to buy the updated version too.

I downloaded all that was stated above and what happens for me is the online game loads half way and then the dolphin browser closes. I bought this kindle fire hd because I was told by sales person I could play online games...what a joke, more trouble than its worth. Any ideas on how to get this to work?

Buy the Puffin browser from the Google Play store. The Google Play store has a newer version than the Amazon Appstore. Side load it in the same manner you did the Dolphin browser.

The Puffin browser supports a higher version of Flash so may work better. There is a free version that supports Flash for two weeks. You could try that first.

What game? Perhaps I can test to see how it works on my Kindle.

are you shopping the Google Play Store on a NON kindle device?

In reply to an earlier post on Aug 31, 2013 3:29:21 PM PDT
The Kindle Fire doesn't have google play access. You can sideload apps from Google Play if you have another android device with access. See this article for instructions:

Did all of the above but could not find how to get to Dolphin browser settings, could not find "user agent". Did download the ES File explorer, dolphin and flash player from the links, but still will not work. Would love to watch the US Open.

With Dolphin opened, tap on the menu button (looks like three horizontal lines). That brings up all the menus/buttons for Dolphin, and you want the one that also look like three horizontal lines, but each line gets progressively shorter, that's the settings button.

Try the Puffin Free browser. It supports Flash 11.2. If you have another android device, download it from Google Play, then transfer it to your Kindle using ES File Explorer. The free version of Puffin only supports Flash for 2 weeks but at least that will let you watch the US Open without paying for the browser

I found it and changed the setting to desktop but flash still does not work. I get to the US Open watch live screen, but all that comes up are some squares.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help.

All, an easier fix than sideloading is this: download the "1 Mobile Market" app. Search for Puffin browser and install. Done. Kindle blocks Google but not other android markets. It is so simple most everyone misses that salient point.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 4, 2013 2:22:34 PM PDT
Janet, see below. You can get Puffin from 1 Mobile Market.

K, I just searched the Amazon app store and it doesn't have the 1 mobile market app. (KFHD 7)

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 4, 2013 4:07:42 PM PDT
No. They don't. You have to get the 1mobile market app from 1mobile.
