I've had the same problems and it just came up recently, after Hotmail switched to Outlook.com. My Kindle Fire will work find for awhile, then drop connectivity. I have to go to my PC, access the router settings--sometimes more than once--then the Kindle is fine for a day or two. I wonder if it's an issue with Google (which is my PC's default search engine) and Bing (which is the Kindle's default search engine). If I make changes on my Kindle (like changing to Google), it messes up my PC and I have to reset the router again. I'm ready to go buy the Nexus...!

The WiFi network I have used for 10 months suddenly won't connect. My laptop is connected just fine.I can't remember the password. It has never done this, the password has always automatically been entered. How can I retreive my PW?

OK, Duh!! I figured this one out myself. Password is not a "password" but my web key code. Duh Now I'm back in business. Sometimes it's a very simple answer....

SAME HERE...You would think that after all these postings about the same issue that this BIG problem would be taken care of by now...I sent my Kindle Fire back and am looking for something else...I am considering the Nexus also...I never even got to use it once!!

I just left a new topic on here...Check to see what WIFI version you have 802.1n or 802.11n. WIFI has upgraded there signals and does affect the new Kindles.
My 1st. Gen Fire still works fine with my old Router, but the new one doesn't.

My brand new KFHD drops wifi when screen goes dark. When I wake it up it says it is connected, but I can't surf web or do anything that requires Internet connection. What works for me is to call up wifi connections and try to connect to a different account...a neighbor...put in bogus password. It can't connect, of course, then I choose my network again and it connects. All fine until it sleeps again. At first I was choosing FORGET then reconnecting, but had to reenter password every time. By choosing a different network, it saves my password and automatically reconnects. My 1st Gen KF does not do this. Audio disconnect issues with KFHD, too. Posted in a different thread.

I can connect to the internet with my Kindle Fire but it keeps dropping the connection every 5-7minutes then it takes another minute to reconnect again after I have to open it up and search the connection. This is extremely annoying when trying to stream music as you can only hear 2 songs then you have to manally do something. Help!

The one thing that I can't understand is that they made a whole lot of hype of the HD signal for TV reception, but not for when they upgrade the WIFI? Wonder why?
Anyway glad that my post has helped a few people on here.

I have Wi-Fi problem too, but just a bit difference.

After provide password, the Fire checks then shows "Connected" below my network name, and orange Wi-fi symbol with a ccheck mark. I think that DONE! But I am wrong. I can not access any web page.

On the right top (beside battery symbol) there is a white Wi-fi symbol with a cross (x) on it. Could someone explain to me what does that mean and how to fix it?

Thanks

New Kindle Fire HD 7.9 inch. Turned on, connected to our home wifi with no problem, registered and set up all the goodies. Loved it, however I found my connection was said to be excellent in the setup and at 130 mbps but it was mud slow going to the internet. Tried all cures I found on the internet and found the best one was to return it to the store. I purchsed it to use not to be on the phone with CS our spending my time messing with my wifi. Placed my order for a mini ipad. Works fine at our local coffee shop, but that would be very costly (Latte's)

Just got my new kindle hd and the connection keeps dropping in and out, its so frustrating. For awhile I thought it was my wifi having issues, but then I used my other Kindle, 1st gen, and it had no problems. Thinking about just sticking w/my original kindle at this point.

Did you try purchasing a new WIFI router. I had to do that this week. I bought a cheap $25 WIFI Router from Walmart, installed it and the Kindle Fire works fine for me.
The reason is that the WIFI signal has upgraded...unlike HDTV where everyone was told about the upgrade in television. I don't think I have heard a thing about the WIFI upgrade.

Just got mine today. AT first it picked up my WiFi but then dropped my connection before I could even register it. I had to reboot it and when it came back on there are NO networks available. Been tinkering with the router and KF for 5 hours now and even if I manually type it all in it says the network is out of range. So disappointed I could just cry.

What do you mean not a password? Yes it is

I have similar problems. Just got new kindle fire hd, and when it's on, network will run slow first, then network down. I had to restart router and modem to get the network work. When kindle is off, it's all fine. Don't know what's wrong. Amazon told me to ask AT&T about it. But my other devices never have this problem.

Got really frustrated with the wifi problem. Just got the new kindle last monday, but everytime I connected to the wifi, the network will down after 5-10 mins, and I need to restart the router and modem to get the network works. When kindle fire hd is powered off, everything was fine. I have iPhone, PC, Mac, and iPod in my department, and all was just fine with the wireless router and modem. I believe it's the kindle fire's problem.

I have the exact same problem. Every time I press the power button to put the Kindle HD in sleep mode- when I turn back on it shows wifi as connected but no apps can connect to the internet. I disable/enable wifi on the Kindle and it reconnects to my wifi and all is ok. Its an older Belkin router, I think it is 802.11 G.

Same exact story here. All of us right around the same time too (end of Oct/beginning of Nov). What happened??
