Probably because the Kindles are intended primarily as devices to play media content you purchased from http://amazon.com, and as you probably already know the licenses for said content are not worldwide. For example, even though I can buy physical product from amazon's uk website, I cannot purchase mp3s there because their contracts with the content providers do not cover sales to the United States. As far as I know, the same holds true in reverse.

Could you please tell us what version of Android is running on the new Fire Devices? This is really important to me, because if it is still running the old and outdated 2.3, then I will be buying the Nexus 7. Thanks!

There isno TTS mentioned forthe new models. I won't buy one without it, I have to have it to read books at all due to hand, arm, and shoulder pain. I hope you are not phasing out TTS, Amazon. I could not read books for years, and you brought them back to me. Please continue this feature, or you will leave out many with disabilites.

They have 3GB and 5GB plans. Where are the prices? How much is overage? I'm with you, if these aren't posted, we probably wont like the answers

Agreed! I have begged for the ability to sort and organize into folders. Didn't see anything about that in the specs. That was available on my very OLD Kindle.

That's my problem also Floppy. I just purchased one for my mom's birthday in July and mine is a year old. There should be a trade in option because this is a relationship breaker. :(

$50 per year is a heck of a better deal than the $50 per MONTH ($600 / year) I am currently paying on my iPad. It appears this pricing structure is in place to lure people away from the iPad and to save $550 I would dump my iPad in a heartbeat.

They DID have buy back features. Are these gone now? However, the prices weren't that great - better to sell on Craig's List. KK3 with free 3g obviously more in demand :-)

You really need to read all of the data available. Both the 7" and the 8.9" Fire HD have a built-in camera.

I own the Fire and a K3. I use the Fire for browsing, checking email, and a couple of other things....rarely video and no music. So for me, i don't need HD. But happy they included a camera for those that have an interest.

But I am ecstatic about the paperwhite. I just hope all the "white" pics they are showing are without the light on. It looks really good and may give me reason to purchase the paperwhite! I've owned a Kindle since about 3 months after they were introduced in 2008. Thank you Amazon! Tremendous product!

I hope that Amazon will start a trade-up program. I will get the new Fire when the price comes down if Amazon doesn't start a trade-up .

and what about the apps, video? are they still not available for latinamerica or overseas?

Wow -how do you choose what device to use when?! The new Paperwhite does offer great lighting and significantly enhanced clarity (212dpi vs. 167dpi). Both are nice upgrades, but I think the $179/$199 price for the 3G versions is bit high. I was expecting about $30 less, esp compared to the upgraded Fire ($159) and Fire HD ($199). For pure reading experience, though, the Paperwhite is appealing.

Along with TTS, I load audiobooks from Audible (when I get a credit,I cant afford to buy audiobooks much) so if there are no external speakers, what happens to that feature? Im totally disappointed Amazon!!! What are you thinking?! Guess my money stays in my pocket.

What I miss, and will mean that I stick with my current Kindle Fire, is the ability to transfer photos directly from my camera or its memory card to the Fire without requiring a PC.

Come on!!! Who else has a trade in system? Apple doesn't let you trade in one iPad, iPhone, etc for the next model; laptops don't let you do that; you don't expect to upgrade your TV or DVD for a few bucks every time the next newer version comes out. Car models are updated yearly and you don't see car manufacturers giving away the new ones for a few bucks to someone who bought the prior model within the last 90 days. So why should tech companies be expected to? It's technology...it's always getting better and there's always going to be a newer/better model right around the corner. As for people who've purchased in the last 90 days, it's not like the new models were a surprise if you pay any attention at all to tech news. The rumors of the updates have been around at least that long. If you want to maximize the amount of time between how long any given electronic device is the 'newest' of that model...buy it on the day it is released. After that, every day it's on the market is one day closer to it being replaced by the next model. Either be happy with what you've already purchased, or fork over the money for upgrades, but don't blame the product makers for continuing to improve their products year after year. I'm going to tell you a secret right now: no matter how good the newest Kindle reader or tablet is...Amazon will release a better one in the future! I'd bet you money the developers are already at work on the NEXT model even as I type this message. That's the way it goes with technology.

Does anyone known whether the Paperwhite models support drag & drop for sorting books into folders? I'd also love to see a display of how the folder list appears. These are big frustrations on my Kindle 3G keyboard.

So glad I bought a refurbished white DX for $200. Larger screen and text to speech. Love tts and no interest in a kindle without it.
