Sometimes we scare people off. I know, it's hard to imagine but it's true.

Philip Pearson said: And if they already have a smartphone with a decent provider *cough*Verizon*cough*, it cost only a few bucks a month to just add the new Fire to the plan

You can't add the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 4G to a Verizon plan, the device is AT&T only, there is no option to switch to a different carrier.

I was not aware of that. Well, that sucks for people duped into buying the new HD then.

I carry my WiFi hotspot around with me, a NetZero 4G Hotspot. I paid $100 for the gizmo (and, of course, right afterwards, the price went down to $50), and I get 200 mb per month, no charge. I use it when I am out and about to check and send email, Google something, read news, check the stocks, and surf here and there. I have never exceeded my 200 mb allotment yet. The free Internet access is only for 12 months, and then Netzero will charge me $10 per month for 500 mb... a better deal than what AT&T charges ($15 per month for 250 mb).

Of course, you have to live where you can get 4G access. I live in San Antonio, and so far, I have never been in a spot where I was not able to connect.
