Yes, it will. I'm using a 1st Gen case for my KF2--fits perfectly.

ETA clarification.

My husband gave me my KF 1st generation. I like it, but the battery life is short and the processor seems sluggish a lot. This Christmas he gave me KF 2nd gen. He was trying to buy me the new HD but messed up. I think I am going to like it better. It is 8g so it has more space and the process is alot faster. There are some quirky things to clean up. The book recommendations that come up on the start page can be turned off in settings. I don't like the ads but why should I have to pay to remove them? Hubby did not buy for discounted price. He paid more than if he had ordered on line. Some of the navigation is easier for me.

I had a 1st gen KF that was working fine until the screen just stopped responding. Amazon said they are sending a replacement 2nd gen. Is this because the 1st gen is not avail anymore?

Only Amazon could answer that, but it is a reasonable assumption IMHO.

My first generation kindle had a problem charging and amazon is replacing it with a 2nd generation because they said they no longer make the first generation.

I called and got a replacement in nov. 2011 for the 1st gen, because it would not charge. got the replacement worked good for about 5 weeks now called today with the same problem and they are sending me the 2nd gen. I hope this fix the problem. My grandson plays lots of games on the gen 1 I hope he can on the gen 2.

This thread still seems to crop up now and again, so I'm going to add my 1/2 cent worth now that I've been a 2nd Gen Fire owner for a few months. Still not a comparison to the 1st Gen since I always skip 1st Gen everything and never owned or used one, but here goes.

Since asking the original question and never finding a detailed comparison/side-by-side review of the two, at the end of September I took a chance that the reported 1st Gen bugs/problems/gripes no longer existed and bought the 2nd Gen. I didn't need or want the HD. All I was looking for was a simple, low cost tablet to throw in my purse as a takealong instead of my more cumbersome netbook and something to take with me on motorcycle trips just for internet access and reading when needed. Things I take along with me have a rough life, so I didn't want to spend much, but didn't want an unreliable, buggy device either.

So far, everything works well. The loose charging port problem of the Gen 1 hasn't surfaced so far. It's speedy enough to suit me and my purposes. I admit I've only streamed about 10 minutes of video, so I really can't comment about that. No major Amazon App issues, although I have had several free app problems along the way. Usually clearing app data and cache, along with a reboot has cleared everything up. The Silk browser could use a lot of work and often shuts down, so I don't use it. I use Opera (which BTW supports Flash). The sound is fine for AudioBooks, and the volume level is OK.

So far, I'm happy with the 2nd Gen's function. I use it, charge it, and reboot it about once a week, and we're getting along very well. It recently updated to 10.2.4 to fix bugs that I didn't even know I had. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's always logged in to all my Amazon accounts, so I am very reluctant to hand it to someone to inspect. An option to require my Amazon password before accessing any private data would make this a perfect device IMO (especially in the Shop Amazon App).

I downloaded Dolphin 8-9 after downloading the getjar app and then went to Adobe thru Dolphin and it would not allow me to download Flash saying it was not supported. What am I doing wrong?

Vickil, I don't think you should have ads if he paid full price. I have the KF1 & KF2 (both full price, no ads). Too bad you already used it or you could have returned to Amazon and paid the difference to get the HD. My friend has the HD and the only thing I can see as an advantage over the one you have is 1" bigger screen but HD has a camera and KF1&2 don't. Regardless, nice husband!

Hmm.. I had the same issue in Nov.(?) and they sent me another KF1 as replacement. I guess you're lucky?

Thanks for the specs link, MHR (and also to the person who posted them previously). I had read the specs, but what I was looking for was actual USER reviews/opinions of the KF2 over the KF1. All anybody wanted to do in the reviews of the KF2 was post comparisons to the HD (comparing apples to oranges in this particular case IMO).

A few new posters (above) have had their their KF1 replaced w/KF2, perhaps you can reach out to them if you're still in need.

I finally bought the KF2. So far, so good.

what a joke having to download other apps to get around amazon's blunder of not supporting adobe flash, from the websites I use all require adobe flash. Lame.

boisei, Adobe dropped support for Android. You have a hold of the wrong end of the stick.

Adobe's "blunder" was failing to include software they could not license from the developer. It's called paying attention to your attorneys.
