If you have overdrive loaded on your kfire you can go into your library site and search MP3 books and check them out directly from your device. Once you have them account you have to download each book to your overdrive app

What Overdrive product to you download to your Kindle to make it work? I have tried to download the books directly to Kindle, attempted to put the Android app on it per someone's suggestion, and tried to download to my PC and transfer. Nothing has gotten me an audio book on my Kindle Wildfire. And do you put them in music or books?

I'm sitting in the Harney County Library in Oregon.

I've tried directly downloading and MP3 audio book to my Fire.
Tried adding the Android app - said I didn't hava an Android connected and wouldn't give it to me.

Tried downloading to my computer and then moving via USP cord - put in in both books and music and can't see it on the Wildfire.

Thanks for you help.

Marilyn, try scrolling back to a post in this thread from "chew and digest books." It gave very good and complete instructions for downloading the overdrive app to Kindle Fire. That was what worked for me.

M. Ratcheson says:
Have you changed the device setting on your Fire to Allow Installation of Applications From Unknown Sources to On? Tap the gear icon in the upper right, then tap More, and then Device. You need to do this in order for the Overdrive App for Android (which you can download from the web site) to install.

I came here with the very same question; audio to fire from my library. Thank you all for your answers.

I've downloaded an audio book to my fire. Remember; you have to have adobe software already on the fire for the check out to work. You can check out the audio book, but you'll be unable to play it if you don't make sure you have the software first. I learned that the hard way! lol. Now I have an audio book checked out on my account I can't listen to. But, I now also have one I CAN listen to. Thank you all for your help.

@Carrie: As Wendy said, be sure to download software first. Then the audio book. Also, MP3's won't work. It has to be a WMA file...........If it IS a WMA, check the Notifications at the top of your home page. They might be there and you have to download it.

It is an mp3. I was reading other comments on here where some said WMA won't work on the fire. But also, since I downloaded the audio book 1st & the software 2nd, it won't show? :(

I discovered that the audio book I downloaded before I downloaded the software WILL play. I don't know why it didn't show at first but it suddenly showed. Did you try going to your Overdrive app? The audio should be there.

You got an mp3 to play??

Wendy Wilson says:
Overdrive has books in mp3 format; that's what kindle takes. When you are looking for an audiobook in overdrive, click on the audio mp3 option.

It's the WMA files that won't work.

From the Library, you can change it to 7 days instead of 14 for either books or audiobooks.

Thank you soooooo much M.Ratcheson!! Finally after several months of trying to work with downloading an audiobook from my public local library, I found a few audios of MP3 and with an update made on my Kindle Fire of Overdrive Media Console, I was successful!! And thank you for all of the other information to everyone else, made this "try, try, again" successful.

I just linked up. It seems there are few steps you have to take. First, download the overdrive app from the Amazon Store. Second, double check, I had to do another download once I opened the app. Then you have to select your library and enter your password, pin, whatever it is for you to login. You can only download mp3 format for audio.

1. I just purchased a Kindle Fire (not HD).
2. I downloaded the Overdrive Console.
3. Finally figured out how to Add a Library (mine).
4. Signed in with my library card and pin
5. Selected and checked out an audio book
6. Downloading the audiobook has been going on for two days! And none of it ever downloads.

I do not have a cog on the top right of my Kindle Fire to be able to change to Android setting - I have star, magnifying glass, left arrow, and house or the right margin and that is all. Any one help? This is frustrating. I tried downloading Overdrive to download eBook and audiobooks from the library on my computer a year ago and none of them worked. After a month of frustration I gave up.

First off, I hope you were trying to borrow an audiobook that was in MP3 format, WMA will not work.

Are you following the directions from the OverDrive site at ?

Personally, I have never done the process directly using only the Fire. I use my computer to check out and download the book, then connect my devices via USB and upload the books to my Fire and iPod. (That way I only download it once for all of my devices/computers.)

Karen S. says:
Hi Chew&DigestBooks,

Thank you for your response. Yes, it is MP3 and yes, I am following the directions on the OverDrive site and I get to the very last one and "Loading New Title" just keeps circling (2 days) and never downloads the audiobook. I have good wi-fi so I think there must be some other problem. :(

I will have to try the indirect method. It may be my only choice.
