Marnie...I got my PW last week and everything works fine. Not a problem with anything. This is my 5th Kindle and all of them were purchased in the US. I live in BC.

So, when you set up your account with your Canadian address and entered a Canadian credit card # to make purchses, there was no problem? I am really worried about buying it and then not being able to purchase a book on it!

I have had multiple people tell me they have bought one in the US, they all have Canadian accounts and are having no problem. That's why I started this discussion. I am definitely buying one based on their information. Just waiting on Best Buy...

Thanks Brandon. I think I'm going to go for it. I want to get one for my son for Christmas and I would be so annoyed if I bought it knowing there might be issues and then got burned. So, do you think it will be in stores in the US before Christmas? I went on E Bay and they are charging ridiculous fees for shipping to Canada. I think I'll get my relatives that spend the winter in Arizona to ship one if they can just go to a Best Buy and purchase one.

Seems that the issues they have is to produce enough for the Christmas period in the US, that's why they cannot ship anywhere else. I did read that they would start shipping to Europe, but not to Canada. I am not sure if that's a legal thing of they just don't see us as a big enough market, or maybe they figure if we want one, we can just buy one on Ebay.

I have checked online an called Best Buy in Niagara. They say they should have stock within 3 weeks, but that's a sales guy talking. I don't know if that's true. I just keep checking online at Best Buy every day.

I am also dying to get my hands on one, but I have no way other than to wait. I think once they get enough, they will be easy enough to buy. It's not an iPad, so I don't believe the demand is that high.

Marnie...there is absolutely no problem with a Canadian CC and address. As I said this is my 5th Kindle...all purchased from Amazon in the US and all on my CC. Two I had shipped to my Canadian address the other 3 to a US address.

If my Paperwhite works in Australia with an Australian credit card then there is no problems with it working for Canadians.

I would think Amazon would also want to only sell to the US market first to make sure the kinks are worked out. Taking returns from International customers would be a lot more costly. That might be part of the reason for the initial delay. However, now that they are selling perhaps Canada will be added soon. I only checked the UK, French and Spanish Amazons but they are pre-ordering for sales in late November, early December and sometime January respectively. I find it very interesting that the FIRE is also going to be sold overseas soon too!

Well the good news is that Best Buy in the US is starting to get stock and they tell me they will have by Friday. I am definitely going to get them to hold one and drive through next Tuesday and bring one back from Niagara. I have no doubt it will work fine in Canada

That IS great news! Unless you post that you're having any difficulties, I am going to get my relatives to buy one in Arizona and ship it to me. Thanks Brandon.

If you wait till next Tuesday, I will confirm if it works. The store had 1 today and I was going to go through tomorrow, but they sold it 2 mins before I called.

But you can purchase it with an Australian credit card number. I guess you have an Amazon.ca then? We don't here in Australia, (amazon.com.au) and maybe we don't want one either if it restricts us like this? We do have shipping restrictions on some goods but nothing else.

Actually it's cheaper for me to drive through to Niagara and buy it, than it would be to buy it online through http://amazon.com. Even if you purchase a current kindle from amazon.ca, it goes through amazon.com and it comes directly from the US. Then they attach taxes and import duties, so $119 ends up a $180.

Pushka says:
Wow, those import duties are huge! We dont have any up to the value of $1000. Although Aussie merchants are trying to change that. Online overseas shopping for Australians is booming with our high dollar atm.

Marni...yes you can use a CC for your purchases. I have been doing just that for years. Just ship to a US address. When you order it it will say cannot be delivered to your address...so just put in your relatives address and all will be good.

No I meant BestBuy in the US. I am in Toronto, so I am hoping they come in soon to one of the Niagara stores. I'll check out Goodreaders though, thanks for that.
