This is a public chat forum. The Amazon employees only monitor this forum to delete objectionable material.

He was giving very good advice. Too bad you chased him off.

I'm going to guess the answer to my own question, but if anyone can confirm I would appreciate it. I have never owned an eReader. The Fire will be my first one. I see that it is wi-fi only, but can be charged with a USB to the pc. I do not have wi-fi at home, so my question is this: can I sideload my content to the Fire via the USB? My guess is yes, but before I preorder I'd like to know for sure.

I'm guessing that if you can,it will only be in small chunks because of the smallish hard drive. The main storage is in the cloud, for which you'd need wifi. A plain old K3 will store lots of books if e-reading is your main use,not video.

According to the product information page (yes, there really is one):

8GB for
80 apps plus either
10 movies
or 800 songs
or 6,000 books

8GB is plenty for what I'd need at any given time since I can store the bulk in the Cloud. I figured if a USB can be hooked up to it then content can be sideloaded. Thanks!

In reply to David N. Brown: No, I don't expect to buy fewer ebooks while waiting for my Fire to arrive. I have a 3G Kindle Keyboard, and I expect to do most of my reading on the KK even after I get the Fire. I will use the Fire more for videos, web browsing, games, etc., although it will be nice to be able to read my ebooks on it, too.

Glenn says:
Seriously, if you can't attach a keyboard via USB or Bluetooth, what's the on-screen keyboard like on a 7-inch screen? I hope it's not like texting when I want to browse the Web.

Reply to Carol Conley: If you have internet access at your house, it's very easy to install a wireless router. The router itself costs less than $50. It requires a minor software installation and a couple of cable rearrangements, and voila! You have wi-fi in your home. The beauty of both the regular Kindle and, I'm assuming, the Fire, is the ease of acquiring content from Amazon.

Great discussion, everyone, with lots of thought-provoking questions. Will I be able to watch movies on my Fire when I'm on an airplane (like I've seen iPad users do)? I guess what I'm asking is whether it will be possible to download and store videos rather than stream video content that I purchase from Amazon.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 29, 2011 5:57:19 PM PDT
Tricia, according to the Product Information Page, your Fire can hold

80 apps plus either
10 movies
or 800 songs
or 6,000 books

so if you have downloaded movies, you can watch on the airplane just like the iPad.

We just upgraded our regular modem not long ago since our 9-yr-old one crapped out on us and we upgraded our router and our switch at the same time. We can't do wireless due to some devices not having wi-fi as well as streaming on multiple devices at any given time would slow us down on wi-fi. So we're staying wired. As long as I can sideload I'll get the Fire. I just need to be sure it's possible.

Does anyone know if the Fire has the 8 adjustable font sizes as the other Kindles do? My mother has low vision and requires this feature and I can't find it on the specs page....thanks!

Can I place my existing epub, pdf books on the kindle fire. If so how do I go about doing that.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 15, 2011 4:28:16 PM PDT
R. D. Clark says:
You can copy files from your computer (via USB) or from your Amazon Cloud Drive via wifi download. Fire comes with a PDF reader, but you'll probably need to install an app for epub, with is not format supported natively by the device's supplied software.

You can use both a 3G Kindle if you use the Kindle Fire as well? Is that your Yes response?

R. D. Clark says:
Sheri, owning a Fire will not interfere in any way with your continued use of your Kindle. The only interaction they will have is that, when Whispersync is active, if you're reading the same book on both devices the books will open to your current place on either device. You will be able to continue using 3g on the Kindle as you do now, but on the Fire you will only be able to connect via wifi, because it doesn't have 3g.

D Parker says:
does that mean you can't print from the FIRE?

Posted on Oct 15, 2011 5:40:35 PM PDT
R. D. Clark says:
You will need some sort of wireless printing app that's compatible with both tha app you're trying to print from and with your wireless printer.

Or you can email your documents to a computer that has a printer.

Can i type and save in docs as I can with my iPad?

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 15, 2011 5:55:20 PM PDT
R. D. Clark says:
There are apps for that. But it will be much more pleasant on the iPad's larger screen.

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 15, 2011 5:55:27 PM PDT
@G.J.: There is probably an app for that, but the screen will be mostly hidden behind the on-screen keyboard, I think.

After scanning the posts, I am a bit confused. I read that you cannot access your content you have purchased on multiple Kindles. I own a Kindle with Wi-Fi. I have now ordered the Fire. Here are my concerns: (1) If all of my content will be on the old Kindle, what are the steps to bring my content to the new Kindle Fire and, (2) Didn't they say in the announcement that your new Kindle will come with all of the content loaded?

Mike says:
1. Will I be able to print on a network printer web pages such as receipts for internet orders?
2. Will the mail client support MS Exchange? (not just pop)
