I wouldn't be happy in one sense because I really like the Kindles and Amazons. Although in my post I used the word "minded" not happy - but that's by the by.

If the release date for the paperwhite did end up being 2014, as used in your example (although I doubt this would be that case as the tech would be so outdate by then), then I'd take my money elsewhere, as I'm sure a lot of other international customers would. So it would end up Amazon not being the happy one. ;)

@Popcultureboy - yes it has occurred to me, and if this is the case then it shows a lack of business planning on Amazons part.

but its not about D'amazon or your wants, its about international regulations, go complain to your government so they can fast track this if you feel so strongly about it, you are complaining about the store which is following regulations, HELLO? this isnt hard to figure out

*facepalm*

What international regulations are you talking about out of curiosity - this one? http://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/international-updates.htm (I am genuinely curious).

Even with international regulations, I wouldn't have thought that that would have a huge affect on announcing when a product will be available in the international amazon stores... Apple, for want of a better example, seem to have no problem on that score.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 11:23:42 AM PDT
no i dont think so, im talking about all the different countries that require new electronics, to pass their own countries tests for whatever reasons (safety comes to mind), you are getting upset at the store for not putting a product in your hands that hasnt even put the product in its own countries customers hands yet...just be patient, it will happen, EVERY time a new kindle product comes out the rest of US have to wait till later to get it officially, getting upset and argumentative really wont help you here, we are D'amazon customers there is nothing we can do, keep writing D'amazon take it up with them
: )
now just an fyi, i cant order a new kindle yet, im in canada

get serious. make enough of them to meet the demand. stop being ethnocentric. think big.

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 11:31:19 AM PDT
can't you spell Amazon correctly?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 11:32:07 AM PDT
if i wanted to yes, i also refer to it as aunt ammy

Then why do they sell the Kindle Fire? They must have faced the same problems there. Or haven't they? Moreover, why should we Europeans buy the OLD Kindle Touch at the same price of the new Paperwhite? :-)
They could have at least lowered its price significantly.

"you are getting upset at the store for not putting a product in your hands that hasnt even put the product in its own countries customers hands yet" - if this is Amazons mentality then the really shouldn't call themselves a global company - in my opinion.

^And this wasn't why I was "upset" - I never expected that international amazon customers would get it before the US (although personally, I *do* believe that as a global company they should be striving for same or close as can be release dates for these products.)

And for clarification purposes I was peeved (as stated in my original post) because I had previously ordered a kindle from the .com site, expected that I would be able to do the same again, but couldn't. I'm pretty sure this is due to the ICAO regulation - since it's not just the new kindles that I can't order. In that case, fair enough, bloody annoying of course but hopefully looks like this might be changing in 2013.

However this doesn't account for amazon lack of communicating an international release date - they obviously have previous experience in this department of bulk shipping their products to their international warehouses...so really they should have some date in mind. Unless (tinfoil hat time) they see it as better business sense to continue to sell "old" kindles (I mean old-tech in comparison to the newly announced ones) to their international customers, to ultimately get rid of stock, before releasing the new stuff. After all christmas is just around the corner... they can get rid of many old kindles then. Brilliant business strategy, just not that great for us customers who want shiny new tech. :D

(And I'm not trying to be argumentative, if it comes across that way then I apologise - this is a discussion forum...that's what I'm doing... discussing and putting my point across) :)

took a long time for the Kindle Touch announcement to be made as well - it wasn't released to the French until April 21st (1 week early), so i was expecting a delay of sorts

and the rest of the world could buy if before the people in the countries covered by Kindle stores could (losts of whining on the international kindle forums about that)

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 12:00:28 PM PDT
they also always make sure they have enough in stock for the christmas boom that hits the kindle store, we wont be able to buy one till after that i think same as last time, ive been in your shoes i wasnt happy at D'amazon but really whats the point, nothing will change until the world deals and recognizes that the old regulations, laws and copyright stuff needs to updated so this stuff doesnt happen, its a global market now which is unfortunately chopped up by individual countries issues (gah hope that made sense) i live less than 50 miles from the states and i have to do a work around for most of the ebooks, and other kindle accessories i wanted, if you want one that badly do a work around and get one otherwise you'll have to wait like almost everywhere else, sorry is all i can say

Amazon is all about content. If they have not yet (accent on yet) been able to negotiate the rights to provide the books, movies and videos in Canada, what's the point in selling the devices there?

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 12:03:31 PM PDT
Make more of the Paperwhites and forget about the *crappy* low end model that nobody wants. Pretty straightforward.

CBRetriever says:
yep, takes a lot of time and paperwork and working with officials to set up a kindle store in some countries, especially with all the hype in the media about piracy and some countries wanting to put more and more draconian digital property rights laws in effect

best thing to do is to actually fight those sorts of laws - there's a move on in the EU to create a common digital zone and that might help

what's the stumbling block: canadian govt' or one of it's orgs?

actually it's kinda nice - really good contrast, but that's the only really noticable difference

I agree totally - the world as a whole needs to wake up and update its regulations to accommodate global commerce... and soon lol! I've also had to do a work-around too since my first Kindle was bought from the US store, so I can sympathize with that. And yeah I do want it pretty bad lol since my K2 is on its last legs so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can rope in a friend to help me acquire the paperwhite as soon as it comes out in the US, would be a great christmas pressie to myself! :D

In reply to an earlier post on Sep 11, 2012 12:17:01 PM PDT
soo, you're k2i is dying? whats wrong with it? im looking for a k2i since they didnt have the archive issue like the k3's do

mine's dying too, but it did take a swim in Coca Light, so it's to be expected

the problem with mine is getting two keys for one and tapping the enter key gives me a / as well - I had a password set on it the first time it occured and I had a really hard time getting it to open up after that (removed the password, of course)
