For that very reason, when I upgraded from my old Kindle, I bought a Nook because I can add unlimited 'Shelves' or collections. Love my Nook. Not sure why Kindle Fire omitted that feature???? Jill

We need the ability to make collections on the Kindle Fire. Please let us know if Amazon will offer this upgrade and if so, when.

@ZeeMo: If you want to be certain that someone from Amazon hears your feedback, please send an email to - we are mainly Kindle owners here, not from Amazon.

@G.W. Laing: No one here can answer that for you - we are not from Amazon here. Amazon does not tell anyone their future plans.

I would not have purchased the Kindle Fire if I have known it lacked this feature.

Thank you John I'll do that but it doesn't answer the question as to why the Kindle Fire is lacking the ability to make collections or why Amazon is not addressing the issue.

@G.W. Laing: Until recently, none of the Kindle ereader apps had the Collections feature - maybe it is taking longer for them to develop it and add it to the Android ereader app that the Fire uses.

That is not a defence of Amazon, just an attempt at an explanation.

Thanks John, I sent a reply to a response from Amazon. I have collections on my PC and regular Kindle, one would expect the Fire to have collections too. This is a big deal, hopefully they will provide a software update in the future.

I'm returning the one I just received because of this deficiency.
I wish I'd seen this before I ordered, but perhaps Amazon will get the message.

I purchased this as a gift for my son and it took us awhile to figure it all out; it being our first ereader. Everything was fine until we started purchasing alot of books and I went to create file folders for organizing. As we muddled through it, I have come to realize there is NO WAY to organize the books. I would like to return this poor product but am past the 30 day window. I will be telling everyone I know --- Do NOT purchase this product.

I just bought this and the ability to create collections was my main concern. The sales person at Best Buy told me he was sure you could do it but they had the store one in demo mode so that's why I couldn't see it on theirs. I was suspicious so I googled when I got home before opening it. I will be returning it tomorrow. Guess I will stick with my old kindle until they figure out a way to implement this on the Fire. I read a lot and have hundreds of books. I also like to download samples and organize in folders (like genre, recommended by friend, free books, read good review, etc). Helps me in deciding what book I want to read next. This is a major bummer because I have Amazon prime and wanted to stream movies but I want one device for everything. I bought the Kindle last year and was so excited for the Kindle Fire that I bought it the day it came out. And was so disappointed. For me there are a number of reasons I don't like it. As a matter of act, I'm so glad I hadn't gotten rid of my original Kindle. Gave my son-in-law the Fire and went back to my first one. The lack of ability to store titles in collections is major... it's also heavier, battery life is much less, connecting to internet is a pain at times, touch screen to turn pages distracting if you read quickly, smudges on screen annoying, hated the whole carousal thing, and so on. They'll have to make a ton of changes before I'll be tempted to try Fire again. Only thing I liked was the color... but since I mostly use it for reading books that was pointless to have.

I assumed since I've had every Kindle that has come out that there would be collections!!! Come on!!! Not again!!! WE NEED COLLECTIONS!!!!!

I'm still upset that collections haven't been added to the kindle fire. That was one of the biggest features for me on the older kindles that made it worth having, I had all my series books, help files, cook books, and genres separated into collections so I could not only find exactly what I was looking for quickly, but it greatly reduced the number of "files" I had to view on a screen at once and eliminated the clutter of 650+ books. This is something Amazon really needs to work on if they want to keep their customers happy and provide a better experience for them.

I do not understand why Amazon does not seem to be listening. I LOVE my Kindle, but the lack of a way to organize my books makes me CRAZY! I understand that we can store them in the cloud, but please, I want to add a category to the titles so when I download them I can sort them on the device. This seems like such a fundamental things to be able to do.

That's why I returned my Fire and now have a Nook.

I agree with you.

The cloud storage is just a fancy name for "we store your ebooks on our computers like every other ebook store does so you only have to retrieve it when you want to do that. But we make it sounds special so you think it is too". And as useless for finding what I want to read next as my KF is. I'm not sure why people think this is the solution. Cloud storage is only great until that computer crashes or is hacked. And that DOES happen. I prefer to have all my ebooks backed up on my own computer and a backup disc. I've learned the hard way on this one. :)

I just got my Kindle Fire a couple of weeks ago. I find it unusable without collections and easily retrieved descriptions so I can remind myself what I bought. I have 3000+ kindle books. Whether I sort by recent, title or author...I have to scroll through hundreds of pages to get to the x,y,z's on the cloud and on my device. That is just silly! Undoable. It isn't working for me. I expected at LEAST the same abilities as my Kindle for PC app. Hello?!?!

So far, it's been sitting here, an expensive paper weight and I'm using my Nook Color instead. Not much difference in performance between the two, but I can shelved my ebooks and tap any ebook in my library to get the description and current reviews and I can add storage and not depend on someone else's "cloud" to keep my ebooks secure. Yes, I keep all my epubs backed up too.

I'm very disappointed in the KF. Many craft books are only available through Amazon, I want to read them in color and I want them mobile. I'm having to make a typed of list of those books so I can retrieve them through a search when I need them. So convenient. not.

Collections should be synced between kindle, fire, cloud, and iOS app.
In manage my kindle devices online I should also be able to restrict a device to only access certain collections.

If all these features are important to you you should have gone with a company that has them. Common sense to me.

I just bought my KF earlier this year. I do love it as it gives me the ability to read my book before bed without having to have the light on and disturb my partner when they are trying to sleep. It is also useful for the long car trips I make once a month to see my son. However, I have been greatly disappointed with the lack of an ability to organize the books. (I noticed someone mentioned 4G which would be nice as well...but not as important to me right at the moment.) I have a ton of books on my KF (I think last count was around 1k or so) and I am getting tired of having to scroll thru all of them to try and find a specific genre or something. I'd like to be able to put all my cookbooks into a collection, all my horror in another, romance in another, etc etc etc.

Come on Amazon! Get with the program please! We are all calling out to you for Collections...just give them to us already!

Has anyone by any chance heard of anything about this being in a future update or anything? I know I sent an e-mail to Amazon a couple weeks ago to ask them to put this in a future update. I would recommend others do the same. Maybe if enough of us e-mail them directly they will actually do something about it. Who knows...?

I am disappointed by this also. :(. It would be so easy to create a new collection as well as organize apps if it worked like my iphone touch screen does. What a downer!

Does the Amazon app on tablets such as Galaxy, or ipad, have the ability to make collections for books? I have the Amazon app on my rooted Nook Color and it does NOT. (I haven't tried on the Nook side to see if you can do that with Nook books).

The Fire is a sweet e-reader even without collections. I do hope they add them, but I am quite happy with the way it is!
