Interesting but I think the Nexus 7 will be the real competition against the Fire. Or at least scorch it!

At least I hope so for the rest of us outside the USA.

Neil Shapiro says:
Made by Asus? I have an Asus laptop and, yes, it is a pretty good machine. But I have experienced both Amazon's telephone Kindle support and Asus' telephone support. Talk about astronomical distances between two things. I don't know how that might or might not affect sales figures but it for sure will affect people after they buy. Think Amazon as 10 on 1 to 10 and Asus as about a 2.

Thanks Carol, I have signed up and placed a pre-order.

Only thing is I put my Australian address.

So I might rejoin preorder using the Canadian address and another gmail account of mine. Just in case they won't deliver down here.

What do you think?

Agreed Neil, Amazon's customer support sure takes some beating.

Hopefully the Asus world wide warranty will kick in with this product.

I always recommend Asus and especially after all the knocks and bumps my little Asus netbook has taken whilst travelling around over world the last 3 to 4 years.

Carol, you didn't comment on this bit from that article...

"As for Asustek, the company also plans to release its own 7-inch tablet PC with price at only US$159-179 in August"

Who gives a toss if they have the Fire plans as you put it. All the better I would say!

Hi Carol, I am going to decline your generous offer as I have trouble keeping up with all the books I have and I don't think it will work down here in Oz.

I spent an hour 2 days ago talking via Skype text to customer support about my Ramos W17 Pro 7" tablet I sent back to China for repair under warranty. It had been about 13 business days and was beginning to worry it wouldn't arrive.

They contacted me that night and said it had arrived. Now to wait for them to fix or replace it and get it back to me. With Google play enabled and the latest firmware.

Even if it is a decent tablet I will still get the Nexus 7. From the first use of the Ramos it promised to be okay once Google play is enabled but now not such a bargain given the nexus and prices coming down right across the board these days.

Gawd! I will end up like you owning a multitude of tablets. Well 3 tablets and no pistols.

A very few ODM's manufacture around 70 or 80% of all tablets and notebooks. Its not surprising at all that competing products are built in the same factories. Even back in the days of VCR's they were all produced by one of three manufacturer's, no matter what brand they were.
