I just received my Fire today. My posted delivery date was the 18th and today is the 22nd. I hate FedEx Smartpost. It takes longer. I also had another package sent from Amazon which was to be delivered on the 19th and that came on the 19th. So what gives with the odd shipping times?

November 18, 2011 03:11:36 PM Departure Scan Fedex Smartpost New Berlin WI US
November 20, 2011 11:35:04 PM Departure Scan Fedex Smartpost Indianapolis IN US !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! Come on!

Should be here tomorrow, if not I'll call Amazon. I was hoping to have it before we left town for Thanksgiving.

Smartpost is very easily the worst shipping option since the Pony Express. It takes like 10 business days to get a package on the other side of the country. If I am paying for my shipping I at the very least want USPS priority.

Mine was shipped on the 14th, floated around Phoenix for 3 days, then on to LA, then up to Sacramento for 3 days, finally hit Salt Lake a week after shipping. Maybe it's heading to Mars next? Wonder if I will actually see it before the end of November? Heard a lot of good stuff about it.

As long as everyone is hating on Smartpost, I want to play. I find that it easily add a day, if not two. Also, the last thing that I ordered that came by Smartpost, the package was just dropped off right in front of my garage door. It's 20 more feet to the covered area at my front door! Infuriating. I would consider other options if I see this is the method, but I don't think it normally shows.

Reading this, I would think that Smartpost didn't get anyone's package to them on time. I find that hard to believe. Did anyone get theirs on time?

I am still waiting also - Live in Ponca City, OK - it shipped from AZ, basically went right past me (within 15-20 miles) and ended up in Kansas City, KS where it sat Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday - Tuesday it left Kansas City at 2:23 Am - and I am still scheduled to receive it tomorrow.

What they do is hold these shipments until they get several pallets before forwarding on. FEDEX that is -

-- THIS IS A GOOD PLOT TO PROMOTE THE PRIME.......FOR AMAZON. ..

I have never had SmartPost deliver anything to me on the day it was supposed to. The best I've gotten is the day after the estimated date, which one could argue is why it's an "estimated" date. But SmartPost sends packages all over Robin Hood's barn before finally getting it to the local post office it will be delivered from. Just look at Ranger 797's experience above -- the package just kept going around in circles before it finally made it to Astoria, and it was so close for so many days, it is mind-boggling that they couldn't get it to Astoria the day after it initially arrived in Long Island City on the 17th. The vast majority of the delay is the time spent "in transit" after the Postal Service gets it. It may wait a day or two to be sent out from FedEx, but FedEx gets it to a fairly close post office pretty quickly after that. Ranger's package made it from Tennessee to New Jersey in a couple of days, and then one more day to get to the P.O., but then it took from the 17th through the 21st to bounce around a very small radius in NJ & NYS -- Long Island, for the most part.

I have an arrival date of the 23rd. I guess I might as well forget that then, since all these shipments are arriving late, and then the 24th is a holiday, just my luck!!

Ordered my Fire early October and was thrilled to get the shipping email on the 15th of November, even more thrilled to see it arrive in Montgomery Al. on the 16th. Thought I would have it the next day or two days at the latest. NOT. Today is the 23rd and no further tracking info after the 16th. Amazon says call if it is not delivered by the 26th. Bummer

Yes, lots did come on time, or even early, via smartpost. Mine came on the 18th - this was the estimated delivery date from Amazon once it actually shipped and better than Fedex's estimate once it showed up in their tracking system.

My first post on the boards from my Fire! It only took twice as long as I was quoted. I have learned from this to have packages shipped to a friend's so I can use UPS.

and it did not show up today. and no mail tomorrow. what I really hate was that I did have a little bit of hope that it would show up today, but having to wait for the mailman till 5pm today truly sucked

They should call it dumbpost! I finally ordered my kindle after wanting it for a really long time. I was so excited about getting it. Dumbpost took all the fun out of the purchase. I tracked it on the amazon tracking system going all over the country in a pattern that made no sense at all. It even went in and out of the same location twice at one point! I finally just went out and bought one at a local big box store and returned the one I ordered from Amazon when dumbpost finally delivered. I wish I would have seen this forum before I placed my order. Never again dumbpost. Amazon is going to start losing customers if they keep using this shipping method.

I'm sorry but what did Amazon use for free shipping and standard shipping before SmartPost?

yes, i always get all my packages on time even with Smartport shipping. Have never received any package late, considering I have been ordering things from amazon since late 2008.

Any shipment method that involves the United States Postal System will be problematic. Businesses choose to send only a minuscule percentage of their parcels by USPS. Unfortunately the one-time free market beacon, Fedex, is now the notorious mistress of USPS.

I always kinda cringe when I see SmartPost as the delivery vehicle. I must admit, though, that my post office will make a special delivery to me if they get the package after my carrier has already left for her route. So far so good (fingers crossed) I haven't had anything to complain about.

I'm having the same problem.....I'm still waiting for my order...was supposed to be delivered Oct 6th and now it is Oct 10th...I paid for 3-5 day shipping on Oct 3rd...was shipped out Oct 4th....Fedsx smart post had it for days in my town before giving it to the local post office...and now it says it's delivered but I have not received it. Last time I buy from Amazon....

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 10, 2012 8:46:41 AM PDT
Erin, you should contact Amazon and let them know about the trouble. They will at the very least refund your shipping.

The more customers who complain about Smart Post, the better.
