So one of the tablets has contracted a probable fatal defect. So, other than the dark side or fire, any suggestions on droid tablets?

My Mom has the Galaxy. When I was home I had to set it up for her. I found it easy to use and intuitive. And there were plenty of fee apps available for it.

@ new mom,

That's exactly what I was wondering, if porcupine meatballs are pretty much a Pennsylvania thing.....interesting!

Here's my recipe for them-

PORCUPINE MEATBALLS

Mix together...1 LB ground round
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup long-grain rice, rinsed in strainer
1 small onion, grated
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/8 tsp. thyme
Form into 12 meatballs. Brown well in oven at 370 on foil-covered baking pan ( till brown)
Place in large skillet with lid.
Mix and pour over...1 can tomato soup
1 soup can water
1/2 tsp. cider vinegar
Cover and bring to boil. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook 50 minutes, stirring and basting meatballs every 10-15 mins.

*****I always double the meatballs and freeze half for a future dinner*****

I asked my SO who said her mom used to make them but thought they used a different name.
She came via Kansas. I don't remember my mom or grandma making them.

Anastassia says:
My German grandmother used to make porcupine meatballs - I always thought it was a German thing. So maybe Pennsylvania Dutch ? I remember that those meatballs were a real treat (because the only other meal I recall Grandma making with any regularity was boiled chicken !).

In reply to an earlier post on Feb 19, 2013 12:56:55 PM PST
We had them in So. Ca. as a kid...

Susan says:
I would guess my equivalent to porcupine meatballs are stuffed peppers, made with ground beef, rice and tomato sauce.
Several years ago I had my mother write down all of her recipes and I typed them up and created a binder for her kids and grandkids for xmas. I think she left some important steps out because things just don't taste the same, she is still here at 85 and just kinda laughs at us, I think she left things out on purpose...

Suze says:
@ Barbara,

Oh my! Boiled chicken!

My meatball sauce has vinegar in it and I know lots of Pa.Dutch recipes have vinegar also! There's a community of Amish people 1 hour's drive from here in New Wilmington, PA. Fascinating homes and farms and horse-drawn buggies and a one-room schoolhouse. We passed the schoolhouse once in the winter and there were a bunch of wooden sleds propped up against it. The solid colored homemade clothing hangs on the outdoor clotheslines in the cold winter too because they don't have electricity.

Anastassia says:
Not only boiled chicken....but chicken boiled on Saturday which was then left out on the back stoop (still in the water in a covered pot) until Sunday dinner ! Don't ask me why - I don't know - and I guess no one ever questioned it at the time. Sounds terribly dangerous now - but she lived to be 94 and her two daughters are now 89 and 84. Times were different back then. Memories....

Susan - my stuffed pepper mix is about the same as the meatballs too only instead of baking the peppers they are boiled in a pot of BBQ/tomato sauce.

I just picked up a Samsung galaxy tab 2 7 inch at cowboom.com (best buy graveyard), returned item, sold cheap, had 2 tiny scuffs on casing, screen is perfect, it is a very, very nice tablet, except for being 7 inches....so the larger version should be good.....you might check there, I admit I love my Asus Infinity.....7 inch tablet weighs the same as the 10.1 inch

Suze, No, Mom is from Kanas, I was born in Mo but grew up in Ca... I'm not really sure what prompted the move west but I was about 2 or 3 and stayed till I was in my 40's...
