One more thing, you can also go to your "Manage Your Kindle" webpage on the Kindle website portion of Amazon, and check for your model there. Once there, then you can select if you do not want the ads showing up on your Kindle Touch 3G with Special Offers. If you DO NOT want them, then you will have to pay an extra $40.00, and that will equal the price of the Kindle Touch 3G WITHOUT special offers, which is $189.00. If you have any further questions, please talk to Amazon Kindle Support.

Hi Dorsie... my KT also WANTS to this human to obey it and download the special offers. When it fails to get a proper response, it pouts and it takes me an hour to get it back. Does anyone know if "Deregister" gets the KT out of the system and allow me to just use it as a reader. I feel the "Experimental" stuff stinks! (this is a friendly forum so the word stinks).

This is for Jmwy: If you press DEREGISTER, then you will DEREGISTER the KINDLE entirely and you will have to RE-REGISTER it all over again. That would not be advised to do that in order for it to be a reader. The Kindle Touch is an eREADER, so it will work as an eReader. What I do with the Special Ads is to just ignore it. If you want them to be off of your system, you will have to pay an extra $40.00 to get them to be removed. To get a Kindle Touch without Special Ads, it will cost you for a brand new one $189.00 compared to having special ads on it -- which is $149.00.

Thanks Leia Solo.... the $189 version have the FT plus 3G connection.... I would have paid the extra $10 but I only want to use this as a reader. I do not mind loading eReader files manually.

Thanks All... I tried everything under the sun (de-register etc...) I finally said UNCLE and called Amazon who promptly shipped me a new one. I the Kindle strictly as a eReader and have not used the "MP3 player (the MP3 is just like my old Sony cassette player, plays song 1 thru ...). I stay away from the Web browser (What a joke). I always make sure that the Wi-Fi is always in the OFF position. Again thanks Lia Solo.

Mine has frozen twice in the past week. I don't know if it is because I let the battery go to low or if having it out in the sun did it? I will be watching this post board to see what others are doing about it. I haven't used it enough hours to be having this much trouble already.

My 3-week old KT has worked fine until this week, but now when I'm reading a book and touch the right side to go to the next page the screen goes blank except for the digit 1 page number at the bottom. If I ask it to 'sync to furthest page read', it tells me that I'm already at the furthest page read (page 1). Then I have to restart the book and page thru until I'm back at the furthest page read. This happened 3 times yesterday and 3 times today. This is frustrating and takes time to find the correct page again. I'm now having to keep notes about my page numbers. and which chapter I'm reading. The battery is kept charged. Real books don't do this... Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions?

Mine is in a permanently frozen state, won't even take a charge. Have had it five months and Amazon is sending a new one. Glad I purchased the extended warranty.

I've had the same thing happen. It seemed to have started after the recent update. It reset to the beginning of the book about 5 different times, now it's calmed down again.

That was one of the many things mine did. Kindle Support let me through a Factory Reset and that might work for you (you'll have to redo all your Collections and re-d/l stuff, fyi). I'm on my third Touch since I got it at Christmas. I've had this one for about a month and it seems to be working so far. /fingers crossed.

Why are you glad you purchased the extended warranty? Your device failed during the regular one year warranty period.

Jmwy says:
"extended warranty" not good for any electronic device. As a rule, if it dies, its always within the 1st 2 months and rarely after that. This "Freezing up" is a sign of a poor design be it hardware or software. I suspect its the software side. (I am a software designer) If this darn thing (the 2nd one) freezes pass the warrenty period.... Its the old saying... "See You" Amazon...

In reply to an earlier post on Jun 1, 2012 10:43:59 AM PDT
Now you are confusing me. You seem to be arguing both sides of the extended warranty argument.

I am really frustrated with my kindle, i've had for four months and noticed that it kept on freezing and the little boy under the tree keeps on appearing finally its just gone blank to a white screen. Amazon is not very helpful at all.

If you stop using the Internet on your Kindle, you'll be fine. Mine did that too, then I stopped using all of their "Experimental" features, and it's not done it since then (a whole year). So use it only for reading :)

My Kindle Touch froze solid 2 days ago. I turned it off & back on then did a total power down and restart and it didn't help. It's completely unresponsive. I got online and into a live chat with Amazon & they told me that it sounds like the Kindle malfunctioned & will need to be replaced. But since my warranty ended in January 2013 they wouldn't do a free replacement but I would get a discount on another one.
This is not my first problem with my kindle touch.
The one I have now is a replacement. The first one I had to have replaced due to faulty contacts. I bought the leather cover with the light and the light didn't work. They replaced the cover first then when the second cover/light didn't work I had to talk them into replacing the kindle. I did some research and found that many people were having the same issue, so got the volt meter out and sure enough there wasn't any juice coming through the contacts. I mentioned this to Amazon and they finally agreed to replace the Kindle. That was in January 2012. So now my warranty on that one was up in Jan 2013 and my replacement kindle now does not work at all. After I told them this story and that this kindle didn't even make it 2 years and this does not make me happy the Amazon rep had to talk to the manager. They came back with a "Due to the circumstances we'll offer you a one time only free replacement." Which is good because I wasn't about to buy another one even at a discounted price. I was also considering buying an additional pad, maybe a Kindle fire but I won't after this happened. Their customer service has treated me well but I cannot get behind the product at all.

I totally understand your frustration. The same thing happened with my kindle Fire my husband purchased for me as a gift and it lasted a year and 2 days. When I spoke to customer service they could not do anything because the warranty was up (by 2 days). The most they offered was a discount on the new fire which I refused. I cannot accept that a well made product should last a year! You're better off getting another device (like an ipad or mini) and downloading the Kindle app.
