We each have our own needs, but this Kindle Fire HD 8.9", Dolby Audio, Dual-Band Wi-Fi, 16 GB meets mine perfectly. Checked the specs and it works for me.

Personally, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" with 16GB (vs 8GB on original Kindle Fire) is the right size, along with free unlimited cloud storage, but 32GB may be worth considering. The dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi sounds fine. The 8.9" high definition color display (with 10 point capacitive touch) and 1920x1200 resolution at 254 ppi sounds fine. Video playback up to 1080p, advanced polarizing filter, plus anti-glare technology and stereo Bluetooth meets my needs.

Measuring 9.4" x 6.4" x 0.35" at 20 ounces, this is an improvement over my present Kindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fi, which measures 7.5" x 4.7" x 0.45" at 14.6 ounces. Looks like this new Kindle Fire HD 8.9" will replace my original Kindle Fire, which can then be used for photos, a few basic apps, and my library of PDF files for every bit of photo and computer gear that I own. As noted earlier, we all have out needs, and this new one meets mine perfectly.

Thank you Jeff Bezos and the Kindle Fire team... for me, this is a winner!

I know what you mean! I actually just end up giving them to my younger siblings/ cousins and get them hooked on reading too!

Joseph, for the paperwhite about a week based on 4 hours reading a day. That is with the wireless off.

I agree with you. Currently use paid for app "book collections " but when defective kFire #2 died and replaced with #3kFire, collections had to be recreated. What a pain. Doesn 't seem like Auntie Ammy is listening to what kFire users REALLY want or this would be included for 2nd generation fires. And what kind of name is "Paperwhite "? Sounds like paperweight (i.e expensive brick) or reminds me of toilet paper!

thanks, guess I'll just leave my fire and DX on the shelve, forget the new paperwhite, and keep using my Nook, I really hate spending so much time in calibre converting books!

So very dissappointed that the new paper white kindle has only 2 g storage and no text to speech. I was really looking forward to a front lit kindle, but won't be getting one now. Hope you continue to offer the kindle keyboard. I wish I had ordered a kindle touch before you discontinued them.

Looks like a fantastic product but...

250mb / month? That's not good for much at all, now is it? What happens when you inevitably go over?

On the Fire HD 7 inch, what game is that they are showing in the one fire?

I knew a new Kindle Fire was coming , but not a new version of the Touch. I would have waiting one more month to get it with backlighting.

Amazon Customer Service..........Please help with these two questions. Will the new Kindle Fire HD's have the Sync Book Collections from other device (this feature I could not do without with over 1,000 books) and the text to speech features that the Kindle Keyboard have? These two are deal breakers for me. Thank you very much.

I want to know the same thing. I would love to have the one of the new Kindles but I won't buy one that doesn't offer that feature (text to speech).

Finally, a tablet that will put the iPad in second place. At $299 for an 8.9" tablet with all those feature, I can see one under the christmas tree this year :)

2. on the 3G + wifi version, are there yearly fees?

I'm so excited for this new Kindle Paperwhite. I've been a Kindle user for almost 2 years now - with the built in light in cover. I admired the Nook with light....but held off for today's release! I'm so glad I waited. I got it with 'ads' which is okay - wouldn't want to miss out on some great sale! This is a GREAT day for us Amazon ebook readers.

What about battery life for the new Fire HD? It is left blank in the specification chart.

What is the battery time on the new Kindle HD 8.9" models? There's nothing listed on the comparisons.
