LG, yes, the start time is pretty flexible now, it is currently just based on when most people are posting links on the thread, rather than the updates, and also at what time we have a volunteer to start. :)

Y'all feel free to go ahead and coordinate starting days/times, and any questions here, if you would like, or just jump in, if it's not up at the appropriate time... Awa has presently volunteered this month, at approx 12:15 am PDT, (but possibly might want some time off at some point).

btw- for me, kinlib is (was) really fast to scroll through, to check for the *new* books and new series books, but unfortunately, now I am seeing lots of repeats on kinlib too. No sorting by genre, (but I typically don't sort), I check out all the regular books anyway, (nonfiction, sci-fi, fantasy, horror, romance, YA, etc.), and depending on the day, usually just try to post a variety of things that are a bit different from what else has been posted.

eReaderIQ, although it normally has the more spectacular books (high ratings), can take me hours to go through all the books... and the majority are repeat books. If I have time, often I will post some of these again anyway, for the newer folks. If kinlib is at say, 300 books for the day, I know eReader will be about 800+ books for the day, (300 new +500 repeats). yikes.

I like DFB too, but again, was seeing lots of repeats over there, and I simply haven't had enough time, to start over again.

@Miss Mitford, no worries, looks good. That was a fun time? Hey, at least your 'puter works again. ;)

@AuntOh, have you looked at crotat? Gosh, those are beautiful. I picked up a set of hooks a couple years ago. I hope I can still do that, when I actually have the time.

@Lover of Books, thanks for the early kinlib update yesterday.

K4PC woes... I did make a little bit of progress, I managed to delete almost 3000 books out of MYK, which should have been plenty to get things working again. However, it didn't fix my *cough* old K4PC. Boo. I can see the new temp book placeholder files loading (0 KB), but the new books just won't download now. A simple reinstall didn't change anything. Nada. It is also acting very differently than before, so I am gonna hafta spend some more time and maybe go for a new clean reinstall, and *hope* that it will work again.

Anyway, I don't have alot of memory on this computer, and I am currently all set up for *major delete!* mode now, so I am going to keep plugging away at that... and try and get the huge MYK pile whittled down more. Ha, it sure looks like I am overly well stocked on all those redundant cookbooks and 'How-To' booklets!

Thanks everyone, see ya!

@AWA, just let me know when you need me to fill in. Is there some way I can send you my email address? Or you can let me know here, if that's not convenient. I'm not online much during the day lately, but don't worry, I always get online in the evening and can pinch hit at the last minute when needed.

@Cinder, I think you can sort Daily Free Books by those not previously available during the past month. That doesn't help too much since it seems that most of them come free every 2-3 months. I wonder if there is any way for DFB to sort by books which have never been free before, or not in the last 6 months or something like that?

I've noticed that 3-4 of you are the backbone of the free list. I wonder if there is anything that we can do to encourage others to post books? One idea that I had was to post an informational post occasionally explaining how/where we find the free books and how to post free books to the list. I know that some people are more technically challenged and others just need more encouragement to help out. Do you think that might help?

Thanks to all of you who keep up this thread. I'll try to do better myself. I usually don't check the books until late and since there is only a couple of hours to go and no one seems online, it seems like a waste of time, but maybe not.

Hi!
@Cinder sorry to hear you're still having computer problems:-( Glad you're making progress. Yeah!

@LG, Cinder and all who post late,
Thanks for posting, I really appreciate it. Some days I don't check until my insomnia sets in. I've caught several good reads before the prices jumped, from your late posts. I hesitated to post thanks, to avoid down votes. I just have to do a better job of adding thanks to my posts. :-)

@Awa, LG
If you need a break from starting, you could post a note here to let us know. That way we could volunteer to help out.
I check Links Only when I wake up most days. The time varies with how well my insomnia is controlled. LOL

See you on Links Only~~~

Hi Dee, drat and double drat! I am not having any success with 'fixing' K4PC this time. I managed to set up to sideload books for now, and boy, that is a lot of extra clicking! Might need to stock up on some extra mice, lol. Still deleting lotsa books (coz I can!) and trying to catch up on the clicked ones. This is such a pain. :)

Looks like the kinlib books are still hanging a bit, later coming in than the ones on ereader. I haven't had time to check ereader at all.

(Too many tabs, hafta restart... temporarily dropping off some recent romance links here 4U, these might not be free now...)

ETA-

Romance links

Hi Cinder!
Thanks for the links:-)
Sorry to hear K4PC is still such a problem.
Deleting books...that's just more than I can handle right now. LOL
I don't know how anyone handles the large numbers of books. I'm close to 3000 now and I can't find anything. I need to figure out what to do about cataloguing. (giggles and squirms too much work!)
Well back to hunting for books:D
See ya!

To everyone,

The Death Tax Murder Mystery Foreword: the Snowman

I'm afraid this is only a 4 page advert for the upcoming book, to be released in December. I overlooked the dismal page count, my apologies.

No apologies needed! We're all sharing books or links we know next to nothing about. lol

ETA- Well mostly, I love it when someone mentions that they actually read one of the books. It makes it easier to 1-click.:-)

A very big thank you for all you're doing to keep the thread running smoothly!!!!!

Hi Awa, please don't worry, you are doing great. Thanks!

Sadly, I didn't get a chance to post this cutie in time, < NOT FREE Bunny Rabbit Amigurumi Pattern (How to Crochet) > if you missed it, you can put it on your wishlist for next time, or, Awa if you want to send me your email, (my WL), I can loan it to you. :).

@Dee, lol. I am mostly just winging it, trying to grab some that quickly look worthwhile. (recognize author?, or nice cover?, decent reviews, but not all posted on yesterday?), If I stop to actually read the previews, I tend to get lost reading & don't get anything else done. <g>. Right now I am still working on deleting junk books. It is time consuming, but it's been kinda fun too, for a change of pace.

@Cinder- Glad to hear you're okay. It has been rainy here so I'm sitting around looking for books. Been reading a lot and now my eyes need a rest.
Well, maybe I'll post some more books and bump the thread, first. LOL

Cinder says:
@Dee, yup, doing ok, not enough coffee and too many tabs though! ha. It's hard to believe how many books I have looked at (and clicked!) in the last year. I have now deleted about 10,000 books from MYK, and I still have quite a ways to go. Some books are also missing, here and there, so cross-referencing is more time consuming than I expected.

I use calibre to catalog my books, and I have added some extra columns for: genre, read/unread, paid/free, to-keep/deleted, etc, if you need help with it, just ask. It is a really powerful program, but the minimal instructions can be daunting to start. (I figure out new stuff all the time. lol). Everything is frozen solid here. Actually, the water line already froze, but I got it thawed back out pretty quick (again). Really glad it is not raining too, (it has happened before), that would be a dangerous mess.

@AuntOh, I picked up a couple more crochet books last night, the preview on this first one is really short, however, it says 55 pages for the book - How To Crochet - A Guide For Newbies (Crafty Creations) and the second one is on very old vintage patterns, but already it's < NOT FREE Collected Crochet Patterns but it might go free again? (I can loan it too, but it is probably too long of a book to really use on loan, at 194 pages).

Also, there was a new update to K4PC/K4mac on about Sept 26th, to version 1.10.4, so, if you are still having problems, you could try that one. (I still have yet to try it out, on my problem Win 7/64 computer).

@Cinder, The sun came out today, so I'm happy. Frozen huh? okay, no more grumping about rain.
I am in awe, 10,000 books deleted! I don't think I will ever get that many. I think I'll limit my hoarding to one or two a day. Just to be sure. LOL!
Thanks for the offer, I am considering calibre. I know I need to do something.

Has anyone noticed that reviews sent from the kindle do not show up as Amazon verified purchase?
I have submitted several reviews from my kindle and recently came across one and discovered that it does not. So I checked a couple of others and see that they do not come up as Amazon verified purchase either. I have only purchased books from Amazon and have never received any from anyone.
Just wondering?

In reply to an earlier post on Oct 28, 2012 5:59:52 PM PDT
Cinder says:
Hi Dee, I haven't tried that. Do you recall, if it shows you the little checkbox, that you have to click to add the verified part? You might try editing one of the prior ones, maybe also on the computer, and see if it shows you that checkbox again, and try to edit them.

Posted on Oct 29, 2012 6:07:02 AM PDT
Dee Reader says:
Thanks, Cinder!
I don't remember if there was a checkbox. I'll give both ideas a try and let you know what I find. :-)

@ Cinder

Thanks for all the info - it just kind of scared/worried me because I was trying to figure out how to "prove" it wasn't me. I just started posting this week in forums. I was watching over last few weeks how all was done. Also I asked a few questions.

Is there a way to see all the post by someone? I know on other web sites there is.
My profile is "bare" because I can't really figure it out.
I know if I write reviews they are on there and my wish list could be made public but what else does one put on there?

In reply to an earlier post on Nov 7, 2012 3:19:27 PM PST
Cinder says:
Hi Aimee, no, there is no easy way to see all the posts by someone, it is something of a security measure here, since it is an open forum and sometimes things get heated up in places.

Your profile, is up to you... if you peek at some of the others, you can get some ideas. Some are bare, yours is fine, it is ok! You could add some general comments on the side, if you wanted, "I like reading, hiking, crafts, etc," or yes, your reviews will automatically show, if/when you get around to that.

You can easily turn on just the favorite books/movies feature, if you wanted to add a quick handful of personal favorites to share. You could eventually have multiple wishlists, with different privacy settings, different items. Some folks also choose to *not* have a public wishlist. Everyone has their own comfort level, and possibly 'internet' security concerns. There is no hurry, so take your time. Now, of course, we know you, so you don't need to do any of that. :)

Dee, there is a ton of new romance today, hopefully you get time to take a quick look. Looks like another Partee offer going on, plus also a huge bunch from Wild Rose, it initially looks like these guys have a serious publishing outfit with strict guidelines and a team of cover artists & editors, so these might really be good?

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_st?keywords=The+Wild+Rose+Press&qid=1352296682&rh=n%3A133140011%2Ck%3AThe+Wild+Rose+Press&sort=price

ETA- oops, that link also includes the erotica.

@ Cinder, Thanks for the link to romances!
I've been reading a five in one volume for the past several days and not picking up anything. Guess I'll make up for lost time. LOL

Also...
I checked about the amazon verified purchase statement on reviews. I can edit my reviews on the computer to include it. I tried a few and it changed them to include the statement. I haven't checked on the kindle, yet. :-) Thanks for the suggestion.

See ya on links only~~~

For those collecting the vintage cookbooks, this was offered the other day, < NOT FREE now Simple Spanish Cookery (Peter Pauper Press Vintage Editions). It looks like they added a new batch of books, but most are not KDP, if you want to add to your wishlist anyway.

@AuntOh, there was a second canning book <NOT FREE now Home Canning Recipes Vol 1 : A Collection Of Water Bath Canning Recipes (30 Home Canning Recipes Using The Water Bath Canning Method). I haven't checked it out, but water bath canning is the easiest way to start.

If you are new to canning/preserving, you might like to visit the National Center for Home Food Preservation, (nchfp.uga.edu/questions/FAQ_canning.html), and follow the various links on the left side. Any of the recipes there, or in the DTB "bible", Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving Price: $12.55, are tested & safe, and really the best place to start. There is a lot of potentially unsafe info out on the 'net today (old books, old methods), that might end up in a collection sometime, but it is fairly easy to understand the risk areas, once you get started.
