I've had this less than a week and all it does is freeze...then I reboot. I've reregistered it, done all the things people say you should do, and it continues to be a real pain in the butt. It's going back, if I want a device of this type, I'll get an iPad. My SO has one and loves it. No problems like this whatsoever. Amazon, you need to fix the OS on this before you sell any more of them and continue to frustrate the tablet community.

I have had my kindle fire for three weeks. It continually freezes up. I try holding down the button to reboot, but it does not work. Has anyone the same issues?

This is my 3rd fire and every single one has freezing problems.

My Kindle Fire is usually fast, but then I was about to scroll down and get this really good book, and BAM it froze. I tried everything: clicking the home button, the back button, the search bar, and nothing would work. And then I tried James's idea: press the button for 20 seconds. And it turned off around 13 seconds. So I guess that pressing the button for a ling time will work!

Yes my kindle fire freezes frequently. I want a new device. Amazon should give me a refund and soon they'll earn their money back because they're charging tax! Unbelievable

In reply to an earlier post on May 14, 2012 7:08:19 PM PDT
@Mary: Amazon is not charging tax; they are collecting the tax that US people have to pay anyway in their state, if the publisher has a presence there.

Contact Amazon's Kindle CS and ask them about your problem. Click Help (near center at top of new Amazon page; upper right on old pages). Click Kindle (left column) or Kindle Help & Tools in the middle. Click Contact us (right column). Or you can go to http://www.amazon.com/contact-us

You can also give them a call at:

U.S. and Canada: 1-866-216-1072
Kindle Support: 1-866-321-8851
International: 1-206-266-2992

Or, they will call you back if that facility is enabled for your country. You leave your info at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/contact-us/kindle-help.html?ie=UTF8 - you must leave your landline phone number if you live outside the U.S.A., Australia or New Zealand. This works really well.

We do not recommend using email to contact them. Most emails are answered with information from the knowledge base and often do not answer the specific question.

This is the reason your kindle freezes: You are using more than one finger! We have recreated the freeze on ours with a one hundred percent success rate. As soon as you use more than one finger to scroll or change a page it freezes. Period! As long as we use one finger to touch the screen it works flawlessly. Clearing the cache and constantly resetting the device by pushing the power button is useless information. We cannot believe that no one else has figured this out yet. We're on our second one and it does the exact same thing as the first one. It has absolutely nothing to do with the apps, music player, flash, etc. Seriously Amazon tech support: Are you kidding? btw: This one is also going back and we are officially done with the Fire.

I am particularly having freezing problems when using Words with Friends- specifically, the advertisements that are mini videos don't seem to complete the last 2-3 seconds, and the screen freezes, unable to get out of the app/adv and get back to the game without shutting down the Kindle Fire.

mine freezes when I am on the wi fi, I think I'll just use it as a reader and a downloaded movie watcher.

Glad you posted this, mine keeps freezing and it is my second one. The first one never turned back on! I pressed the button for 20 seconds and it finally shut it down however it took forever to come back on. So frustrating.

Well I just experienced my first "freeze up" of my KF. It sounds like a commKindle Fire, Full Color 7" Multi-touch Display, Wi-Fion problem maybe I will just get a refund and try something else.

"Words with friends" video ads are the only time my Kindle has ever frozen. Right now I'd say it freezes during 1 in 5 of the video ads, most specifically during a Beautyrest ad. (Sure won't be buying THAT product!) I would very much like to pay even a high price to have this game ad-free on the Kindle, but it does not appear to be an option. My Kindle works great all the time except for this. If anyone has a solution for avoiding the video ads, I would be grateful to hear about it.
My sympathies to those of you having Kindle troubles. It is such a fabulous little device when you get one that works well.

The 20-second button hold worked for me. Thanks!

I have just encountered an issue with my KF . It will not allow me to go from the carousel to the web. It just goes back to the carousel.

Rogue says:
Glenn: If you have not done it for awhile I would suggest a hard boot. Just like PC's, over time a lot of bits and pieces stay in the memory and will lead to operating issues. Hold the power button in for at least 20 seconds. Continue holding past the shutdown message. After it is completely off, press and release the power button and allow it to restart. It is similar to a cold boot on a PC which is nit the same as restart. This should be done a few times a month depending on usage. Glenn

Glenn Jacob says:
Thanks but this did not help. It returned right back to the carousel after I tapped on the web. Any other suggestions?

Glenn Jacob,

Are you absolutely sure that you have not accidentally restricted access to the web via the (now expanded after 6.3.1 update) Parental Control features on your KF? The behavior you describe sounds as if the browser itself has been disabled.

I would suggest a hard boot right into the trash. The Fire is an unstable piece of junk. Return it while it is still an option.
